I was wondering what was going on with this situation. I wish I overheard the call. If I were you, I wouldn't be very reluctant about it any longer. Don't even give them a day to breathe about it.

The second I've ever lagged behind on student loan payments, I would immediately start getting at least one call per day; used to be more than that until the law changed cut their calls down (hey, government isn't ALL bad). Their persistence was the easiest way to remind me, "Hey, you still owe us some bucks. What's up with that?"

So, I recommend definitely being loud about it, if you weren't already. Don't get crass. Don't be vulgar. Remain professional, but keep reminding them that you haven't forgotten, you won't forget, and that you're simply an individual with a pile of your own problems that need ironing out, and they're simply adding to the pile for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with you.

Hang in there. Be abrasive. Be aggressive.

I agree with Eldridge, Slimmy. In my experience with the government with my student loans and when the state screwed up my taxes this spring.... the best thing to do is keep on them. I'm not going to point fingers at the government and say that they don't care, but I will say that there is a lot of red tape and a fuck ton more citizens needing attention. The best you can do is make sure you stay in their line of focus. Call everyday and don't take no for an answer. Just make sure you stay calm and rational. Normally you're speaking to someone who has been screamed at all day over rules they can't change. So firm, yet polite. Keep at it buddy.

Things will turn around. I know ya won't believe me, but they will. I say this from experience.
