That really is sad. It's like its going back to the old days where all they care about is money. But then again if you take a step back and look at the economy. I would blame some of them for doing that. To earn some extra money on the side to pay for gas or something they need.

I'm not an artist, but quite frankly I see nothing wrong with it. Sure it's nice with a place like FA where artists can post their stuff, but on the other hand, I think it's more than a little rude to say that this means artists should display all their art for free. Take an example like Jay Naylor. A lot of his artwork is free, both items he shows on here, as well as his comics, but at the same time, most of the pornographic stuff is in the pay-site section of his website, and I think that's quite alright.

I understand where you're coming from in this matter, and yes it's always sad to see things going back to how they were before, but in this case, I think it's quite understandable, in that it's one of the few ways that these artists can make a bit of money off of what they enjoy doing. I enjoy programming, and I do it for myself whenever I don't have an assignment, but that doesn't mean I'll just do it for free for anyone who happens to ask me.. No, I charge for it.. For the time I've put in it, and for my expertise on the subject. :)

It's certainly frustrating from the standpoint of the viewer who wants to see the art without having to pay for the privilege. But I can at least understand why many artists are returning to the paysite method.

One benefit, is it gives the artist a little more control over who/where the art is shown. Of course, pirates target paysites like Sexyfur more vigorously then freesites like FA (possibly because they get to feel like they really are getting away with something) and that piracy does more then just annoy the artist, it takes money away from them.

But art is a skill, just like carpentry, or hairstyling, or house painting. If you're good at something, then you can offer your skills to others in an effort to make money. That's how capitalism works. People offer skills/services or products that others are willing to pay for.

If a carpenter can sell his handmade bureau and be thought of as a businessman, why can't an artist?

For me personally, it comes down to this:
Artists in the Fandom generously share their work with us for free. I don't take that for granted. While I might not be able or willing to pay for an artists work, I don't look down on them for trying to sell it. It's their hard-wrought creations. If someone else is willing to pay money to see them, then the system works.

I agree it's disappointing, but its their talent or whatnot if they wanna charge for it they can.

Just like you could, open up a website and host amateur videos of yourself doing stuff, and stuffs and charge for it if you really wanted too.

Shrugs.
