Thinking about going vegetarian?
It's been on my mind a lot lately. (I've been contemplating it for a year now actually)
Though being an extremely poor college student I don't really feel like I'm in the position to turn down free food, free food usually being meat.
I'm also very much a social eater, many of my friends being big eaters on meat.
I dunno, any words of advice? I have many reasons for wanting to go vegetarian, both health and ethics related.

There are a lot of tasty, plant-based meals that you can eat that are cheap, though, and I've honestly learned to cook a huge variety of foods since giving up animal products. You'd be surprised how little veg*nism will "limit" your meal choices... unless you're vegan and eating out. THAT can be an issue.
If you have any specific questions, I'm an open book! Hope I can help you out!
Any resources you can give me would be helpful.
I would like to be vegan eventually, though for the time being vegetarian is enough!
On your predicament though, here's my input. I don't really know how strict you are about it, but maybe make the switch slowly? Like I said I'm not a vegetarian or anything, I'm quite the opposite so I'm unsure on how the mindset goes for this :P Maybe until you get financially stable and are able to keep up a pantry/fridge full of edibles that suit you, you can do what you can personally to stick to your vegetarian lifestyle while still keeping your tummy and wallet full by accepting the food you get and indulging in the food your friends eat until you can afford the switch? Again, I may just be giving useless info since I'm not used to vegetarian lifestyles, I'm just giving my two cents. XD
my cheap staples are basically cabbage, chickpeas, butter beans, kidney beans, carrots, and garbanzos. You can get REALLY cheap legumes/beans in huge cans from mexican stores or from the mexican brands Preferida or Goya. You get HUGE sizes of cans that last for cheep. And they're versatile for food. I mostly just eat veggie curry 99% of the time but you can get bulk corn tortillas to make lil burrites and quesadillas (or flautas if you fry them), the tortillas of which are really cheap too. (You can get 100 for like 4 dollars from the brand Tamexicos).
Beans are also nice in stir frys and in soups which you can mash or puree. AND here's a lil czech recipe for you: roasted cabbage. Basically you can hollow out one cabbage (they last forever in the fridge and are cheap as balls if you just buy normal cabbage, no fancy varieties) and stuff it with peppers, beans, mushrooms, your scooped out cabbage, and onions. Usually you add meat too but you can make it veggie (i often do for $$$ reasons). It's really tasty UuU
I honestly need to cook at home more often, I just don't really enjoy cooking too much. Hmprff.
