Weird thoughts - Energy is awesome.

I find that when we think about energy we most often imagine radiation (light, heat) since we can actually see and feel it. Kinetic energy is however what even those things are made of, and kinetic energy is so abstract that it's impossible to visualize.
Even the idea that we are capable of moving seems sort of bizarre to me. Our ability to move seems to be enabled by our ability to convert a source of potential energy into our own motion. This whole process on a completely basic level (assuming all matter is made of energy) is simply the redistribution of energy.
Now here's something really weird to think about. Why can we use momentum to increase our potential energy but require the potential energy of food to sustain our other movements? Why can't we simply absorb energy from any potential source and maintain our motion through that?
When I refer to motion I am referring to both the behavior of our cells' chemical systems and atomic movement.

1. Energy always changes from one form to another, but never fully dissipates (classing newtonian laws. Actually, there's a theory that the universe may die when all energy runs out, called the Big Freeze, but I'll leave that for you to find out)
2. Second law of thermodynamics: A system cannot produce any more energy that you put into it.
With that in mind, all comes clear.
Momentum, as you call it (potential energy) has to be created somehow. Does not randomly appear. You have to climb up a hill, using your own energy (which you get from food). So you don't actually "gain" energy when you go down... you "accumulate" it when you go up. That's why it's harder to go up than down. The amount of energy you accumulate equals the amount of energy needed to beat gravity when you go up.
Whether that energy comes from your own legs or another source (electricity from an elevator) is another thing altogether.
Clearer?
Take that one toy, where you have half a dozen metal balls lined up and that when you release one, it transfers directly to the one on the farthest end.
Now, start slowly expanding the space between each ball over time. the farther it gets, the more awkward and innefficient the colliding balls become. they'll eventually reach a point where they will not make contact with one another no matter the force or the momentum of the swing.
That's the same basic principle. the universe will make space so wide that there won't be any way to transfer energy between matter efficiently. no efficiency, no concept of heat, Big Freeze.
Energy is always redistributed but can always be stored as well :3
I think that the specific process the human body uses to transfer energy from one state/source to another is based on chemistry.
Here's an even more dangerous thought: It is possible that the earth's collection of solar energy within our atmosphere is, in and of itself, what started life to begin with. All this collecting energy on our planet needed somewhere to go and be used, so simple organisms were formed, which soon became plants that utilize photosynthesis to directly convert energy from the sun into energy to sustain themselves...which was then transfered to herbivorous lifeforms later in evolution...which then led to carnivores and omnivores.
i have a strange thought alot of energy is exspelled during mating maybe if we could harness that somehow we could power a house or a car or a toaster, convert heat energy to electric or something.
sry i am have asleep and not thinking clearly or sanely and my minds in the gutter
sounds like someone got in the Salvia...
What really boggles my mind is how we measure metabolizing food and burning wood as Calories. To me it seems like two different processes. If this were the case why is it impossible for us to maintain a good enough caloric intake and basically live forever?? Unless we don't want to.... (gasp!)
Likening electricity to water, such as voltage is the same as volume of water and amperage is the same as water pressure, it's sort of easy to understand how it can hurt but not quite kill, unless thers some amps (power) behind it.

Now, taking what you were saying into account, this astral double might be
able to absorb energy without the crude methods of chemical reaction. Some claim to do it while still living, feeding off energy created by living or even non-living things. If you look at what the Yogis claim as true or even partially true, it is in fact very possible to live for years without hardly any food. There are cases of medical doctors having treated patients that ate no more than a baby would eat, and living that way for years. Perhaps as a last resort their bodies did what you are talking about.
I could go on with other examples, but I'll leave it at this...
The more science advances the less likely it seems that the physical world is the only reality, and even less likely that it is bound by strict laws. At the quantum level all of our neatly thought out theories and laws of energy seem to be nothing more than the simple thoughts of children.
In answer to your first question I would have to say that from my own understanding of physics we gain momentum throught the utilisation of our own potential energies. This is to say that for anything to gain momentum there would have to be a transfer of direct kenetic enrgy from one thing to another.

My little energy thought. :3
I'm in agreement that the body gets in the way, however, not to the point to make it impossible to yoke the full potential of one's self. It is up to the spirit (conscious of a person) to train themselves in all of the abilities they think they have, and I phrase it "think they have" because often times pop culture makes us believe things have to be done a certain way and that supernatural abilities are limited. In my own experimenting, I have found that there are a string of events that can occur by supernatural force that do not have one word names like "telekinesis, clairvoyance, telepathy, etc." I have also witnessed that pop culture's rules for the supernatural is extremely misinformed. The simplest example of this is that most people think anyone with telekinesis can throw heavy objects. I've found it excruciatingly hard to start motion in even a light stopped object (a paper pinwheel balanced on a needle) where it is very easy to change the velocity in a heavy moving object (a billiard ball).
It is my belief that all spirits have all abilities, but without practice we are like infants trying to use a computer. It bothers me that too often those around me try to evoke spells or prayers to get someone else to complete a supernatural task for them. It's not that I don't believe in higher powers, its just that every supernatural ability I have used comes from me. Begging some higher power to do something through ritual is about as likely to happen as asking that deity to do your laundry: why would they when the person asking is capable even though unpracticed?
Funny thing is the more the practice the better we become so, even if it takes all of one's energy to do something eventually, they will be able to handle it as simple as they do walking.
Yeah, pop culture is not the most informd source for, well, anything. They tend to portray things in a way that makes them more entertaining, not more accurate. Especially how ritual is performed and how much it is needed.
When you get down to it, the ritual and prayer to random spririts is hardly neccessary. That having been said, it also makes things a lot easier for certain people. Some people like to believe that the power comes from outside themselves as its easier then them trying to imagine that they themselves hold unlimited potential. As far as 'why should spirits help?' the main reason is that belief can bring power to astral things such as spirits, thoughforms, or 'gods'.
Some spirits seem to vanish if you simply do not think of them (easier said than done), but along that line then wouldn't they want attention to keep holding sway in this realm? Wouldn't a spirit that supposedly helps people get more attention than one that is seldom seen and never communicates? The other reason may be that some things feed off either the energy released at death or warmth (or energy) released by living things. Along the lines of energy released at death, there is blood and life sacrifice. Along the lines of warmth and living energy, there is ritual intercourse.
I've experimented with actually creating spriritual helpers as opposed to simply calling existing ones, but the trouble is that you may get more than you can handle. 'Thoughtforms' as people are inclined to call them, are sticky. If something similar already exists, it will be attracted to your 'new' creation, and may even become a part of it. I do not wish to share my particular experience other than it was very successful, but it seems to wax and wane. Sometimes even other people can see it ( trust me, I was more than a little shocked when the person I told it to protect actually SAW it multiple times) and other times it will not show itself even to me for weeks. The problem is that I found a certain story in a book about black magic, and saw an exact description of my supposed 'creation'. So how much of it is me and how much is something else is a scary thing to contemplate.
I do agree that using your own abilities is far superior to anything prayer or ritual may or may not accomplish, but besides that it is much much safer. I only invoke if it is absolutely needed. If you want any more information on thoughtforms though, read the Nocturnicon by Konstantinos. He has some very compelling ideas about how ritual can be useful, and how even when invoking thoughtforms it is really only your own power at work.
As for the gods, yes belief in them gives them power, but they don't fade away if forgotten. Godhood is like presidency; when you are out of office you don't disappear. You just aren't paid much attention. I have no idea about "energy released from death," but I know that energy for spirits is not like hunger in the living.
For the "thoughtforms" I have another explanation. It would simply be called being two places at once. Instead of calling another to look after something/someone, you can spiritually be two places at once. I am closely connected with a friend of mine a state over. However he is feeling, I know if I'm paying attention. He doesn't see me because he trusts me enough to be a part of him instead of looming around outside his body.
Unless you believe gravity is a form of magnetism :3
Like, say, wind erosion causes part of a cliff to break away and fall down... there hasnt been any energy put INTO the falling boulder, so why is it falling?
Matter and energy is not created or destroyed. Matter recycles and energy flows.
