You don't need a style, neither do you need a routine or a pattern to sustain your art.

un-consistency can give out some of the best, unique and most interesting art because it's unpredictable.

It's also more exciting for the artist themselves as they are always learning something new, even if they do not go back to it.

It's also particularly frustrating for me. I have the hardest time doing or even taking commissions. How do I price something if I have no clue how it will come out? I have no idea if the next picture I do will have lines at all, or maybe they will have sketchy lines, or maybe they'll be very graphic lines, like a comic book. It's good for exploring, but not great for work that requires some consistency. I don't even know what to do when someone says "do it like this one". I just shrug and go "Well I'll try."

I feel like this would be less of an issue if I could only take 'experimental' slots, but they would likely cost a lot and I'd just end up not getting anything ^.^;

Well, that's kind of down to the commissioner to understand it may not come out exactly in the same style. And nothing ever does usually anyway.

You can always work on your consistency if it's such a problem. And discipline yourself.

All those styles are pretty consistent and give good examples of your work and what to expect. You just need to give lots of examples to show it ranges slightly.

If you give multiple examples you can show someone what they can generally expect...then you can try follow suit. If it doesn't come out exactly as planned, well...sue me.

I just usually try to give an example or two in whatever style that seems to be my current 'trend' for the day. I should really try to work on being more consistent in my work too though. I've really just got to find a way I prefer working, but right now it seems I'm still in that 'deciding and experimenting' phase.

You may not have a strict coloring style but the way you draw things and your anatomy is recognizable to me. Artist of many coloring styles.

But I'm the same way but the other way around.

My noses. NOSES EVERYWHERE.

I can usually pick out your art from a lineup every time. I've always thought that while you improve over time, that you definitely have a recognizable, if not wholly 'consistent' style. The way you paint, the way you line - while it might not seem the same, you definitely have your fingerprints on your art.

I have no idea, I have the same issue.

Well one thing I found useful in remembering what I used, was giving the brush a name that included the radius that I liked. You could probably apply that to the other stuff, like if you can name textures name it something like, 'That Texture I Used on Nic's Drawing' or whoever.
