People who leave generally don't unwatch like that. Sometimes people just... unwatch. Hard to say why.

In general:
My taste in art is always in flux.
How much time I have for FA changes.
Artist can change their style or subject matter.
All can cause me to watch, unwatch and watch folks over the years, though it's usually the first two.

It's almost never personal.
You can always note folks who unwatch and ask them.

Everyone has the right to watch/unwatch who they please, they might watch you to commission, support or just love your art. Some people may be leaving the site, others may have lost interested in your style. Don't worry about who unwatch you and what not. Its just a number at most.. There will always be other people to watch you that will replace the people you lost.

I wouldn't take it personally. There's a ton of people out there who absolutely love what you do, so... focus on them. =3 Focus on the good, not the people who unwatch.

Could the possible unwatch bug be also part of this? I don't know if its still persisting.

Still, I agree, you can't please everyone, just aim for the ones who are still around.

From my own personal experience, those that start to draw a lot of pony things and nothing else (generally ruining the artist because there is no variety) they lose more watchers. One of the people I use to watch now does only ponies. I don't like MLP (other ponies and equines are fine) but I got so bored and am not into MLP stuff. More and more people do this and lose more watchers. She asked me why I unwatched her, I told her why, and she got angry. Then not 3 days later 21 others unwatched her. She still only draws MLP and has fewer watchers....

I think this is just an example of what can happen when either not having enough variety, or drawing too much of one thing.(I'm not picking on MLP directly, just giving an example). A few others started to draw scat a lot so I unwatched them too. Etc.

I have also come to notice people leaving unwatch everyone.
And some people have a "watch limit" meaning they unwatch people when they hit their own limit.

I concur. I too have unwatched people who all of a sudden decided they only wanted to do pony art from now on.

I'm a hardcore brony and man, I don't blame you <:{ that kind of happened to me.. Hell, I made this FA account because I was sick of Deviantart being only like "DRAW MOAR PONIES". I post original stuff there still and no one gives a shit because all they want areMLP, unfortunately. I understand how it is from both the pony artist AND the watcher...

I don't know why people would want to unwatch, you do great stuff.

More often than not, it's an accident on their part, either thinking they didn't watch you and click it, then seeing they just unwatched you! I have done this so many times it's FAIL LOL

I've never seen the point of unwatching someone, unless they "flip the script" on you, in that they started out drawing one thing and then just suddenly changed and started drawing something totally different. I've unwatched people for that reason, but you've not done that, so I don't see the point.

It's likely people who leave FA or switch accounts. As stated above, it's almost never personal. They may change their tastes as well. You can't please all the people all of the time. But as Dragoneer stated, focus on the ones who stick with you and love your work. :) I'll keep watching. ^^

One thing I've noticed is the watch button is too close to the note button. That may lead to misclicks.

lol i have 316 watchers (was 317 yesterday) been on here 7 year. probably have had 200 unwatches. i think most of my unwatches come from people who think I draw, even though i'm a photographer and they don't find out until later or something xDD I know exactly who watch me too especially since i have a small list and don't normally clean out my watch notes since i have so little. so basically i have visual comfirmation of the people who unwatch hahaha ;-;

I think its silly to worry abput making others happy.. its much better to do what you love amd expect if people love it to they let you know..

People watch and unwatch me all the time. People are fickle, but don't think that means you need to change!

I've also had some unwatch.
I think the fact that new people still show up says more then a small percentage leaving.

Truth be told, anyone who sees this journal is watching you :P so could hardly answer for the ones who left!

There was probably a period of time when you didn't draw things, if I notice someone on my Watch list hasn't drawn in months I take 'em off.

Hmnnn have you had a style change recently? Or been drawing a certain thing over and over? I know I unwatched someone since their art went from cute desu stuff to Megatron and all that... even adult rated robot on robot stuff. Got tired of seeing that in my submission thinger so... unwatched. Another time I unwatched is I quickly wrote down all the fursuiters and fursuit makers onto a piece of paper and unwatched them but then made my secondary account watch them instead. :3 Since FA doesn't have an organization for submissions I did it this way. I kind of sift through my watch list once in a while, if somebody has gone inactive I remove them. If somebody's art subject matter turns into something that I dont have an interest in I will also often unwatch them. I also tend to unwatch people when they are posting "please help" or "I'm so miserable" or general drama journals on a full-time basis. Everyone needs to post those sometimes but I have no respect for the people who are asking for donations or pity for something different every week all year.

Anyhow you haven't fallen under any unwatch criteria for me, so I guess I can't understand why anybody would unwatch you. I'll just say that I dont think you need to feel self conscious or sad about it, it was most likely people rage-quitting the fandom and they'll be back in a few days ;) ahhaha.

Like you said, its difficult to keep everybody happy. There are a lot of people that watches and then unwatches when realizing you wont do porn, by example. Some people unwatches because lost interest in your style and move to something else. Some people unwatches because they hate something you love. Some people assumes things and unwatches. And the list goes on.

Like 'neer says, I wouldnt take it too personal. People comes and go. You should worry about the people you love and that loves you in return. That's at least what I think.

Seriously? I've been here for months or maybe even a year, and I'm still struggling keeping TEN watchers with all the art I'm pumping out.

Christ. Mainstream artists. Just no. I love your art, and you deserve a shitload of watchers, but do you really need to complain like that's not a big number?

That's not what he means. He's just talking about when people randomly unwatch you. He could have 50 watchers and still have posted this. It's really annoying as an artist, because it makes you feel like you did something wrong (even if their reason for unwatching was completely impersonal and not related to that), or that they thought you were good, but decided you weren't. And you also don't know who it is that unwatched you, so you can't even ask them why they decided to. Just a whole lot of bad feeling in general. It's not about the amount of watchers, just that people leave, you don't know who or why, and can't find out.

I've probably unwatched about 10 people since I started out here - and mostly for the reasons people said earlier. Too many whiny journals (totally fine with these every once in a while, but every week or even several times a week?); I watched them when they drew pretty awesome vanilla stuff, then all the sudden drew nothing but hardcore fetishy/weird stuff; I happened to really like a drawing or a few drawings by someone, then they never draw anything even close to the same subject matter again; too many YCH/auctions to the point that it's almost spam; or a massive style overhaul to something that looks nothing like the style I watched them for.

So, those are all things I try to avoid doing myself, but people still unwatch every once in a while, and it kinda sucks when you don't know the reason.

I would say dont bother to much about the un-watching and such, some people cant wait longer then a couple of days for new art to show up.

don't get too overly upset about it, usually my watchers just leave furaffinity, I've noticed that

I'm always curious as to why they clicked -watch, don't care so much that they left, just want to know why. So that's why I pay attention to them too, so I can look at their page and see why. Often I see that they cleared out all their watchers, or are only watching a few people now.

Like others have said, people change. I know I'll unwatch someone when I lose interest in seeing their art, when they don't post anything for at least a year, when they post a journal saying they are leaving forever (whether they actually do or not, if they stay I'll find them again through browsing). I try not to unwatch if they occassionally post something I don't like, just ignore it, but if it becomes all they post, then yeah. Very rarely do I have to unwatch for personal reasons against the actual person (or if they unwatch me first)

You can't make everyone happy with your work, so make yourself happy with it and others who like it will stay.

Well after you said you didn't want to have friends I almost unwatched because that hurt me. But at least I chose againist.

But you should at least make sure you use better words so they don't hurt people unknowningly.

you know what it is? they just dont appreciate the quality of art and are sick of not being catered to and served PORN PORN PORN PORN on a daily basis. I once did this clean pic and got a massive outflux of watchers... most of the people on this site are pervs you have to understand that, dont let em get to your head okie?

I may not make myself known to you aside from watching you and faving your work, but don't worry about if people unwatch you. Just means they don't have a good sense of style when it comes to art :)

Eh, I wouldn't worry about it. Sometimes people just unwatch. It might be something stupid like they were just "so offended" by something you posted. More commonly, I think it's just because their interests have changed. On occasion, I will unwatch an artist for the latter reason. I mean absolutely no offense to them at all! I just feel like I don't connect with them like I used to. And that's ok, because an artist is free to grow in any direction they want, and they don't have to cater to my personal needs. I decided to watch them, they didn't come and kidnap me or anything. And you should just continue doing what you are doing. Don't worry about keeping anyone but you happy. :) People and watchers will come and go, but your real friends will stay constant, no matter where you and your art go.

i understand you :C a long time ago it bugged me too, but then i just stop paying attention to that, it is their decision to watch/unwatch, i just can't make everybody happy, it's impossible, after all i enjoy drawing i always did it because i like what i do, and didn't do it to please anyone else.

You are not the only one, I do keep track of who is watching me and me watching back. It is for fun, and though it would pain me that some would unwatch or disable, it is a good way of seeing who your true friends are. Well, you will see me here for a LONG time since I'm watching you and you're watching me, and we both are recording each other.

Well, it's impossible to appeal to everyone. They might have unwatched simply because your art wasn't appealing to them. That doesn't necessarily mean there's anything wrong with your art.

I dunno. I mean, i love your art, but you are really hard to get a hold of.

You told me you would a valentines picture commission, but then I never heard from you again. You never responded, and it really made me sad. It sucks to think that your favorite artist doesn't have time for you (and you have always been my favorite artist)

It's just people changing. When I first joined dA I liked a lot of the same sorts of artists, but now I actually can't stand the sort of art I used to love. As artists evolve, so do their tastes. Even if you're not an artist, taste just changes naturally. I don't think it really matters, it's not people disliking you, and there are still tons of people who like your stuff! You can't make everyone happy, y'know. Don't worry and keep drawing, keep your chin up! You have tons of supporters behind you as well.
