Yeah, I wouldn't expect much from any game that was mass-produced and/or mass-marketed, even in a series as batsh*t insane as saint's row.

Sounds like maybe an homage to DigDug? How did it work?

It is a ray gun given to you by someone who thinks you are working too hard. You shoot it at someone and it very slowly increases the size of the torso and head of the model, followed by the eyes. Then they pop. But you need to keep the ray on them for a fairly long time and if it goes off target they shrink back down quicker than they grow, and take 0 damage.
