EF 19 - it's not the same - if you have a fursuit

This was Eurofurence 19 for me:
* Arrived as one of the first staffers on Monday around noon. Spent the rest of the day helping with setup.
* Pranced through the lobby in my fursuit early in the morning on Tuesday before we had to open registration.
* Watched the Maritim slowly change from a business hotel to a convention hotel through the course of Tuesday.
* Again got into suit in the afternoon. Got to make fun of a group of business people who tried very hard to pretend there wasn't a black squirrel looking at them, much to the amusement of some other non-furs who seemed to have a sense of humor left.
* Was awed on Tuesday evening when registration stats told me over 1000 furs had arrived on the early arrival day. Total attendance was around 1350 btw. I propose calling Tuesday "regular arrival" and Wednesday "late arrival" next year.
* Sadly had to miss the fursuiting event at the Magdeburg zoo because I didn't want to be unavailable to registration for so long.
* Fun with fursuiting trackleads who didn't know who was in that black squirrel fursuit. Or maybe they just played along?
* Attended the opening ceremonies. Thank you all for keeping the talks short and to the point this time. Great video showing off the new con hotel in Berlin.
* Nearly passed out while dancing through the shopping mall in fursuit. It was too hot in there, but they pledged money for our lovely charity in return for a dancing fursuits flashmob. What's getting a little hot compared to saving the lives of countless wild animals?
* Slept in on Thursday, barely made it to the registration team photo shoot. Then found out only Wolffire was awake, the whole rest of the team had overslept or forgotten about it. So no photo.
* Got into suit and returned to the photo set, this time to have Hitch's photo taken.
* Had a look through the dealers' den, but didn't buy much, just some of TaniDaReal's coasters and a few prints.
* Helped set up and enjoyed SnuggleBunny's fursuit piano play event. Next time we need lyrics sheets!
* Next up: Kage's story hour. Laughed hysterically at the brony story.
* Hitch got his photo taken again. Only this time, there were 600 other fursuits there with him.
* Danced for almost 3 hours in the fursuit friendly dance. If I ever get into a coke speed drinking contest, this is what I'll do right before it. I didn't know it was possible to down half a gallon of coca cola in just a few minutes.
* Slept in on Friday and woke up with a hangover, although I only had one single beer the evening before. My body still wanted lots of water.
* Went to the Mongrels behind the stage SIG run by the two Guests of Honor (two puppeteers from BBC's hit television show "Mongrels").
* Took a look around the art show trying to decide what to bid on. In the end I only won a single piece.
* The Fursuit Parade, also known as "Denial of Service Attack on Magdeburg Traffic" by fursuiters. There were about 500 fursuiters and perhaps 500 other convention guests, but the real jaw-dropper were the 6000 non-furs who had come to see the parade. In the end the police blocked a major street for us and told our security to just handle the fursuiters. Thanks to the city of Magdeburg!
* Found out the artshow closing was scheduled directly after the end of the fursuit parade. Decided against going there all sweaty.
* Waited too long for food at the steak house.
* Ran to be on time for Furry Karaoke in the piano bar. They were a bit short on equipment, so I brought some of my personal stuff (mixer, microphones and cabling). As we learned at Confuzzled it's really important that the audience can read the lyrics so they can sing along, so we had a projector and a screen. A very drunk Uncle Kage tried to sing ("Hello Youtube") to raise money for our charity.
* Got up and got right into suit for the group photo on Saturday.
* Art auction bidding seemed a bit slow this year. Much of the bidding must have gone on in the art show before the auction: I am told the total turnout is still a convention record.
* Hitch, my black squirrel, got to sit on the floor in front of the audience at the charity concert with FoxAmoore, Dreamsong and garra. He tells me he really enjoyed it.
* And finally, the pawpet show, this time with original soundtrack composed by FoxAmoore. They've outdone themselves! That underwater scene was incredible. Floating fish, floating bubbles, how the hell do you do that on a live puppet stage?
All in all, I had a blast at Eurofurence. And this journal has gotten too long already so I'll stop now.
See you all next year in Berlin!
