SOPA & Manga Studio 5
Just a quick thank you for everyone's response to the last journal. The responses were really interesting to hear! I apologize for not responding to everyone; I'm terrible at that type of thing and often lose track of time.. and once a week has gone by.. I just feel rude responding so late so I don't at all.
Next up, SOPA; Yes, they're doing it again. You can find the petition here: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/pe.....-2013/LMzMVrQF
They're 3000 petitions away from the goal. Even if you don't sign, I think it's good to be aware of. I am super impressed by the fast response time this has gotten.
Some things to note: Piracy would become a felony under this version of SOPA. So if you stream a video with your LDRs, or sing a cover of a song and put it on youtube... that would mean you're going to jail.
I have my own views on piracy, but I think that a felony for the act of piracy is complete overkill and bullshit.
Lastly Manga Studio 5; Anyone used this and can give their opinion on it?
I've been wanting to purchase Photoshop CS6 for forever, but at this point it's just.. outside of my price range, and after having found out Adobe charges Australians approximately 41% more on their products for NO FUCKING REASON, that kind of lowered my opinion of them. Plus I am not a fan of the Creative Cloud direction they're taking.
I don't like "acquiring" products like this, in case anyone suggests that. I like to support a good product and a good company where I can, hence asking if anyone has used Manga Studio 5!

If you have more questions about the product I'll be more than happy to answer them to the best of my ability :>
Oh, thank you for the offer~! There are a few things I'm curious about asking, but I'll try and compile those up first!
Beat someone to pulp/run someone over while drunk? Spend a night in jail, nobody gives a shit.
Use a copyrighted song in some shitty youtube video? Get the FBI, call in the SWAT teams and off to supermax prison term with the human SCUM.
Skewed moral values are AWESOME.

If you've got a Student card or whatevs, you can pick it up for $15pm.
But then again, we're talking subscription prices here.
I just use SAI on my PC, and Art Academy/Colors! 3D on the go lol :P
Granted though, there's a ton of cool new features in the current products they have available! But I guess I'm just old-school in wanting to own a product instead of renting it.
I never really gave Sai a real chance, probably being too ingrained in my photoshop ways, but I have heard a lot of people like it! I'm not familiar with Art Academy/Colours, though. I'll have to look that up =)!
I really want to get Manga Studio 5! <3
I also want to get Painter X3, but that is currently out of my price range.
I'm still using my ancient version of Photoshop 5.0, not any of that CS5
or whatever they changed the suffix to, I'm talking about 1997/98 version
of PS5. It still does the basics of what I need, but I really want something
that can better emulate traditional media, and the 3D models in MS5, I'm
totally excited for!
Photoshop 5.0! Yikes! Haha, as long as it works, I guess! I have heard good things about MS5 emulating traditional media. It does all sound very exciting!
very nicely, more so than what MS5 does, I think. But it costs an arm and a leg, about
as much as I paid for my original PS5. ^__^; At least I've gotten my money's worth with
it, ha! Though, it is not exactly compatible with Windows 8 I find... It won't install and I
had to copy and paste my previous installation on my old machine. It works fine now, it
just bugs me with a registry popup every time I start. :P
Painter X3 and Painter 12 have tons of video demos on YouTube. I recommend checking
them out, even though I'll probably never afford it. ^__^;
It's not even an issue of wanting to pay money in most cases, it's availability. It took me ages and ages to get the US store of iTunes working where I live. It took me months to accomplish, and while I'm now finally 'allowed' to give them my money, it's still technically illegal. And the real kicker is that the most files I download from there are even DRM protected. Iron Man 3? Guess what, can't move it to my external HDD to watch on a different computer. I go through hell and back to swat some dollars in their back pockets, and the service is less than if I had just pirated the darn copy. Ugh. It's frustrating.
Other than not supporting the creator - and the legal repercussions - there are very few disadvantages to piracy. If they really want to remedy the piracy problem, they should create a kick ass digital download store where you can get things easily and drop the high and mighty bull'.
Real shame to hear about your iTunes issue. Glad you sorta got it sorted out though!
What boggles my mind is that games - complex interaction heavy programs that sometimes require thousands upon thousands of files to work flawlessly - are for some reason the forerunners of such a service, and are easier to acquire legally than for example a episode of a show, or a movie. They're simple videos files, it should be relatively simple create a distribution service for. It's one of those silly concepts that really shouldn't be thing, but are.
But, we've stopped SOPA before. We can do it again. And hopefully this time, they will learn that we will never let that bill pass.
(I can't even imagine how much processing all those felony's would cost, too, let alone the cost of up-keep for the surge of piracy related inmates in prisons. I'm not sure they've thought this through *_*!)
I am not a US citizen though, but I will see if I can still sign it non the less. }:)
Its very well done and like many have said its a cheap love child of PS and Sai
Good luck with your stories!
Thanks for the heads up! I'm currently using CS3 though. I feel so outdated and old now XD.
Making piracy a felony is laughable, that wont ever make it through into law but still, its best to send a clear message to politicians: do not fuck up the internet.
The Novel Big Brother is supposed to be a warning, not a guide!
(Warcraft fan I can see as well. Could tell just from your avatar lol)
You've got that right. It'll be interesting to see what happens in regards to IP rights.
