I've recently read some journals and such by people worrying about whether or not Fallout is going to be too similar to Oblivion, or if the gameplay mechanics will hinder the experience, or if the engine blah blah blah blah yadda yadda.
To these people, I say: STOP TRYING TO BE CRITICS AND START ACTING LIKE GAMERS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!
I get so sick listening to kids (let alone adults) trying to nitpick every little minuscule detail about all the latest games that come out as though they had to defend their own "geek-cred"... and now people are questioning/bashing Fallout 3 before the game has even been released!
What the hell, people? It's freaking FALLOUT!!! Who gives a flying polka-dotted rat's ass if it bears some resemblance to Oblivion. Hello, it's a Bethesda game, it's going to have some of the same feel, no matter how hard they try to detangle it from their regular franchises.
I've been waiting for this game as long as (and in some cases, a lot longer than) any of you have... and as long as Bethesda has maintained the fundamental essence of what made 1 and 2 so totally badass, why should the engine or mechanics matter? They could build it off the original Duke Nukem 3d platform, and I would still play the hell out of it. Why? Because it's FALLOUT!!!
I think people would enjoy themselves a lot more if they spent less time analyzing games and more time playing the bloody things. Honestly, did gamers sit around and pick apart Mario Bros or Zelda when they first came out for the NES? NO. They played the games and had fun. That's what gaming is supposed to be: FUN.
Have some fun, people. Leave the petty whining to the overpaid analysts at game magazines.

FA+

but he's right though. stop da bitchin!
S'yeah... don't underestimate the power of small details. People who complain about them do so because they want to love the games as much as possible. They don't want to have any nagging distractions in the game.
My ire is directed at those who like to consider themselves the next generation of Yahtzee or Roger Ebert--the ones who spend so much time bitching and moaning about all the things they don't like about a game/movie/whatever that they ruin it for others. It especially irks me when they start their little whine-fests before the game has even come out yet, as though their digital palate was so refined that they could taste the flaws in a game pre-release.
That sort of pretentiousness gets under my skin in any circumstance, games notwithstanding. I'd rather they just let me enjoy (or not enjoy) my game in peace, and allow me the chance to determine its quality for myself. Or at the very least, let the game hit the shelves before they start spelling out its flaws in giant neon letters.
But yeah, it bugs me too when people take on a certain air when they complain. Specifically, the "you know what grinds my gears" or Yahtzee-sounding rant tones. If you're bothered by something, whatever. But don't pretend like you're one of those witty, rude, ranting reviewers, because you just come off as feeling forced and tacky >_>
