...a distant-other-side-of-the-family member's friend comes staggering into my driveway and tells me he's disappointed that I didn't finish college...
"Well, y'know when the cost of tuition doubles right after a Recession, and your grandmother has dementia so bad she needs constant supervision....but it would take everything you have to hire a caregiver.....so you quit school and your job to become the caregiver, until she passes away almost a year later....and then your sister gets knocked up, and subsequently needs a babysitter......you just kinda forget about college."
Like I needed that.....Hell, I'm disappointed too, in a lot of things, of which quitting school is only a small part! And guess what, I bet before I'm dead I'll be a little more disappointed! But you know something else...I look after my own.
He was probably drunk and I shouldn't let it get to me. But damn. Every time someone comments on whether or not I'm in school, I just feel like such a failure.

As for schooling, I was close. One math course away from my Associates in Art, and half way into a degree in Graphic Design.....can't say I miss the Graphic Design. Probably have to retake everything after so long. And now, I can't say I want to be a Graphic Designer. My classmates figured me more for a Park Ranger apparently. (which doesn't sound bad at all....but the way it was said made it seem that i didn't belong) If I do go back, it will be to finish what I've started and see if I do better this time around.
Well sure, if you do go back, see what you might have to still do.
I personally detest graphic design even though I work part time as a self taught graphic designer. I do not like the professional art world in the slightest. -.-'
Really cool that you are self taught and found work. I've seen a few with degrees still not find work. Rather discouraging.
And what taste I got from the professional world wasn't too sweet either. :/
