Region code sucks
Why does such a thing as region code exist in the internet age? We can buy from all over the world, but we can't play it just anywhere? And these companies wonder by piracy exists.
I was under the impression that the PS3 was region free. Apparently not, as I just discovered, about to watch Gargoyles. I can watch it on my PC, but it's just not the same hunched in front of my computer as it is sitting on my bed in front of a widescreen tv. Sony, I like a lot of the stuff you do, but screw you for this.

How are you trying to watch it on your PS3? Via YouTube?

No, with the DVD. Which only exists in Region 1 format.

Oh I got it. But, that's very strange.

I consider it misguided rather than strange. In an age where we have a global economy thanks to the internet, and sites like Amazon that sell to practically everywhere in the world, it's counterproductive to have devices playing discs that only play discs from your region. That just encourages piracy, because people want to have access to things promised to them.

Yes, I do agree with that. I'm not entirely sure why, when the PSP was never region locked and could therefore play anything no matter where it was from.

And apparently other models of the PS3 are region open. It's so confusing.

It is. They do it to trick the consumer into shelling out a buttload of cash for a system that doesn't do everything they expected. And since buying a system that could do everything is out of the question, then said consumer is stuck with their first choice.
