Disney Infinity

Has anyone played this yet? What are your thoughts?
I got it on opening day, and I got the three starters (Sulley, Jack Sparrow, and Mr. Incredible) and Violet (who I got free with pre-order!), Elastigirl (Mrs. Incredible) and Mike. Since then I got Davey Jones, Barbossa, and Randall. I have like, 7 power discs (the coolest being the Nemo's Reef sky and Mickey's Jalopy). So far the gameplay has been pretty cute! I sped through the Monsters U world, completing almost everything. I'm taking my time with Pirates and Metroville. I want to get the Lone Ranger set simply because it's a western, but I need to save for that.
Pros: Interesting gameplay, unlocking stuff is fun if not repetative, the animations are fluid and the voices are great (original actors!). Co-op mode is free-ranging and my housemates love to play it with me. Beating the crap out of each other doesn't get old. Disney keeps releasing new Toyboxes every week, and so far trying each one has been super fun!
Cons: Where the heck are all the female characters? Out of 29 overall characters, only 8 are female. I'm still pretty upset by this, seeing as Disney Infinity has more appeal to all genders as opposed to the mostly boys-only feel of Skylanders (which despite that I still am obsessed with). I dunno. The starters were all boys. And one of the 8 females is a car from the 2nd movie. And I really did not like the Cars franchise at all but w/e. The worlds (Monsters U, Pirates, etc) are a little shallow, but since DI is like, sampling from a lot of movies I don't expect a full-fledged movie game of each world, you know? I can see the toybox is their main focus, and it does have a lot to offer. Once I unlock a lot of stuff, it'll be a lot more fun to build in it.
I'm definitely looking forward for the Toy Story set to come out, I have Jack Skellington pre-ordered, and I'm excited for Rapunzel, Perry the Platypus, Anna and Elsa from Frozen, Wreck-it Ralph and Vanellope, and Socerer's Apprentice Mickey. Good thing I'm not a completionist. XD

Again, you're saying this from a male perspective, not recognizing your privilege in this particular topic of female representation in video games marketed to children (which is mostly what I play. I'm not big on Mass Effect or COD. Not really my type of game.) Sure, there might be other games with female leads, but it doesn't mean all the leads are good role-models, particularly for young girls.
I've heard most people try to explain "video games are usually for boys, duh," but it doesn't mean I'm just going to "accept it and move on." Hell, no.
I play a game for the story not the sex of the lead character, Mass Effect, Metriod and Kirby are some of my favorite games. One has a male or female lead then a female only lead then a gender ambiguous lead.
It really shouldn't matter at all, I mean if you HAVE to play as a female character then do so, there are games out there that cater to that, like Dead Or Alive or Tomb Raider or many others.
Video games are meant to be an immersive experience where you identify with the character on some level no matter your differences. Some more so than others, but most video games at least try to get some empathy and understanding from you regardless of your or their gender or even lifestyle.
And furthermore I really think you need to listen to other peoples opinons rather than calling them a cop out for asking you to think rationally about a situation that really doesn't need to be so serious. But I'm out, I have no more to input on this
"I really don't think its discrimination to have fewer female characters in video games." Well, I do. I'm a girl. Who plays games. I don't always mind playing male characters. It didn't bother me playing as Booker in Bioshock Infinite but sometimes it gets old ALWAYS playing as a guy. Just like it gets old always playing a white character. And also like I've stated multiple times, the decision to limit the diversity in a game that could easily pull from dozens of diverse characters is basically saying the girls/characters of color aren't important enough to make the cut.
Like I said before, this game is by Disney, which you'd expect to be beloved by all genders. Yet here we are, again, with the few token girl characters. Disney has PLENTY of female characters to choose from, yet where are they? Fewer than 2/3 made the cut for the game, and two characters haven't even been released yet, so we have no idea about their personality or anything.
I listened to your opinion, and I stated mine: which was I thought your opinion was a cop-out.
Bottom line, It's not irrational to call out gender discrimination. It's a serious topic (yes, even about a kids game) that resonates with people from an early age, myself included. Since the demographic for DI is young kids, I find it very problematic.
This is entirely endemic of the problem, and I don't know how you don't even realize that.
Here's a good article that sums up my feelings pretty accurately. I forgot to mention that in the promotional stuff for DI Tia Dalma from Pirates was featured in the artwork, and until the release date I thought she was going to be a figure released later. My girlfriend was upset, as she was really looking forward to playing as her. Nope. Just a cameo in-game. Maybe she'll show up as a figure later, but that won't be for another year at least.
