I was working on these cute chibi adopts and THEY'RE GONE. My computer crashed and I totally forgot saving them. The only thing I've got left is two friggin sketches. ;n;
I DID have this so called "temp" folder, in case Paint Tool SAI crashes.. but it didn't work. There's only a bunch of useless .dat and .cid files left. :c
Srsly, what's the point in having a temporary folder if it does NOT WORK
I'm going to draw them again anyway later on. Even though I'm really upset right now.

FA+

So yeah I'm just starting everything over again ;~;
Thanks for at least trying to help though~
Its a self-written "Autosave" script that presses CTRL+S (save hotkey) every 5 to 10 minutes (it will even wait for you to draw before pressing it so it doesn't interupt).
I wrote it when my computer crashed randomly every day or so. saved my behind on several occasions! :3

Hope you find it useful ^^
And if wondering what a temp folder is for: SAI and PS use a temp-folder to put in temporary changes till it gets saved (to save on precious memory). if you have one of those "Solid State Drive or SSD" thingies you would most likely want the temp to be on that drive so that SAI and PS work fast, hence why you can pick one. it unfortunately does not work as a backup tough. too much raw data.
It seems really useful! Might download it. ;w;
I just have a few questions. I use my browser a lot while drawing in sai, like watching Youtube videos and using furaffinity and DA. Since it says it is the "save as" hotkey for like browsers.. Should I turn it off when using my browser for like half an hour and turn it back on when I'm going to draw again? And does a "save as" venster pop up in your screen in case you do forget to put it off?
And what happens when you have like two files opened in sai at the same time while working on only one. Do they both save or only the one you are working on atm?
And thank you for explaining, now I get it. So sadly enough the story about the temp file in sai completely auto-saving your work on the internet is false info. D:
So if a browser is active the browser will try to "Save-as" the page (you get a annoying save window poping up)... maybe i should create a special SAI version that only works with SAI rather then being a generic autosave...hmm...
Anyway you will probably want to disable it when browsing, just look for the icon in the corner looking like a Green square with a H in it. right-click gives the choice of Pausing or stopping completely.
In SAI the autosave only saves the active canvas...this is actually good cause if it were to save everything you may end up waiting for a while to save everything.
its also why i included 2 versions. one that goes off every 5 minutes (for fast artists/fast computers and or smaller canvas sizes) and the other that goes of every 10 minutes (for thos with not-so-fast computers and/or Huge canvases). i find a auto save every 5 minutes enough to keep multiple canvases relatively up to date. 5-15 minutes of lost progress beats losing hours after all ^^
Thank you for answering my questions and thank you so much for the help! I'll download it now, and indeed prevent losing hours of work. : )
