The Hard Parts

I love my work: I think it's the best ever and wouldn't trade it for the world. That being said, just the nature of the beast means that some days will be better than others. After leaving a scene today I came to a very important conclusion which encompasses my work and faith as well as gives me a reason to keep doing what I do. I've heard EMT's being called angels and paramedics say they do the work of God; I dont agree with either of these things. What I have realized is that sometimes the angel on my shoulder is the person in my hands. I know that everyone has their time and we will all meet our maker to answer for our lives one day, and I accept that some people just need a helping hand while others have moved on to whatever is beyond this life. In closing, I take a moment to remember my four legged companion who made that leap almost a year ago. He came into this world on my birthday, filled my life with many years of love and joy, and rests with his wings on my shoulders.
