Now that I have your attention... Stop. Just... for the love of God, stop.
I know what your argument is. You think that, after Red & Blue (and sometimes Gold & Silver) Pokemon lost their spark of creativity, and have resorted to "uncreative," "stupid," and "overdesigned" pieces of trash based on things like, God forbid, an ice cream cone.
Guess what? This isn't new. Take off your nostalgia glasses for just a moment and think about this.
You hate Vanillite because it's an ice cream cone, and Trubbish because it's a bag of trash. Guess what? Gen 1 had Pokemon based on a magnet and a pile of sludge. You want to talk about uncreative? Magnemite "evolved" by finding two other Magnemites that formed together into 3, yet somehow still a single, Pokemon, and Grimer evolves into... a BIGGER pile of sludge! Oh, and let's not forget about Diglett, who does the same thing as Magnemite, and Ditto, who is literally just a wad of gum!
Face it, if things were reversed, and gen 5 was your gen 1, and vice versa, you'd be saying the same things about the gen 1 Pokemon. They haven't lost their spark, they're just continuing to do what they've always done, and sometimes they just happen to make stupid Pokemon. They exist in every single generation.
It's fine if, in your opinion, you just don't care for the new Pokemon in comparison to gen 1. That's totally fine. But don't resort to insulting their designs as a justification. The argument shows up far too often, and I'm sick of hearing it.
This has been Evolus, ranting about one of his obsessions, and he'll step off the soapbox now.

FA+

i also wish they were more about their own stories, instead of having to ride around in little plastic balls and have humans make them fight each other.
Little plastic balls? Apricorns are nuts not plastic.
Agreed, I want to see more PMD type stories which are about Pokémon in their own world, instead of the Ash-type gladiator creatures.
there was also something called monster ranchers, which had a couple of humans, but they were kind of just along as part of the crew.
haven't seen or heard mention of either of them in ages.
I have all seven Eeveelutions, too!!! I wanna make a team of 'em all and go kick the elite four's ass with JUST EEVEELUTIONS.
Glad to see others so faithful to Pokemon as whole than just a few. ^^
In all serisousness though, you've summed everything up pretty well perfectly. Gens grow on us over time, and in a decade this generation will be as classic as the first couple generations are today.
