California (Here I Come! (Well Not Just Yet))

Ace Fox in a box!
If you guys remembered from one of my past journals, I was trying to get orders to California to transfer. Next month I get to pick my orders cause I'll be in the 9 month window of transferring. So I'm looking at 2 places as a possibility. San Diego and Seal Beach. I'm going to try my hardest to do what ever I can to get to Seal Beach. Why? It's in the Northwestern part of Orange County, which is pretty close to L.A. I've always wanted to live in So-Cal, specifically near L.A. My mother grew up in Orange County, in the city of Orange, and she keeps telling me how awesome it was. I've been to California a handful of times and honestly, each time I go there, I've fallen in love with that state over and over again (Can't wait to go to FC in January!!!)
Anyways, enough rambling. I'm trying to go to California. I get to pick my orders soon which will be exciting. In the meantime I've kept myself occupied with doing some research. Downtime at work has been spent on Wikipedia, and time at home has been looking at what California has to offer to me (which is quite a lot!) from the beach, to the site seeing, to L.A. the roads (Specifically the 1, Pacific Coast Highway) the canyons in Malibu which will give my 240 a good workout. I've also been doing a lot of number crunching and because of this, I've been looking at some houses and apartments, just to see what I could possibly afford. After all, I'm in the Navy, I will be getting paid extra money by the Navy once I turn E5 to actually go and get my own place. So with that huge bump in my paycheck (around $2000 a month extra, give or take) I can effectively get a nice apartment and pay for it by myself, OR I could finance a mortgage and with a room mate or two, easily pay the monthly payments on it. Through the countless hours of research and thinking, I've been noticing a trend which points to one thing. Huntington Beach. It looks like a nice clean, upscale area with a lot to offer. Nice houses / apartments that's within my price range. So my question to you guys is. What's Huntington Beach like? Is it what I'm thinking of, or is it the complete opposite?
At any rate, I'm SUPER excited to be moving out to California. It's the place I love, the lifestyle I've adopted and tried to emulate in myself (as much as I can) and the place I see myself living for the rest of my life.
I'll be seeing all you west coast furries shortly! <3333

And if you end up in SD that should be cool too- I have a Navy friend down there and he's happy, and the SD fur community seems pretty cool as well.
Hope it works out for ya!
I wouldn't mind San Diego, but OC is where I really want to go and be at.
If you have any questions, feel free to get at me on Skype or something. Just let me know so I know to look out for ya.
Check your DM's btw
with that said, if I was you, before you decide on apartment or a house/mortgage , I would look into to see how much you can pre-qualify for. that way you will see a better view of what not only what you can afford but also if a mortgage or apartment is best for you. Besides if you plan on living there for decades a mortgage would be best.
