What happened to Lucky Strike?

Anyone ever heard of Lucky Strike cigarettes? You might have seen them in world war 2 movies or Cowboy Bebop. They are known as a quintessential American brand, but they are almost never seen in the US anymore. So, what happened to them? They are well-known outside the US. Me and
garu are interested in knowing !
P.S. he also says "nya" and "good luck with the elections" 8)
Edit: I heard one of the reasons it may not be well known in the US anymore is because they are unfiltered cigarettes, which is extremely unhealthy, even compared to other cigarettes (which we all know are unhealthy to begin with)...

He didnt say bomb but you get the point.
But If i think about it, wasnt it called Lucky Smoke?
mad TV had a skit making fun of old Sex Ed videos for school, and the father offered his son daughter wife and sons girlfriend a Lucky Smoke!
my mind kicked in.
Most of the old ladies I know (former retail slave) smoked anything but Virginia Slims. :)
I had one who smoked unfiltered Camels because they were our only unfiltered cigarette. :)
As for other unfiltered varieties, we also have (or had) Camel non-filters, and Pall Mall non-filters.
I also saw some Lucky Strike rolling baccy over in Germany, and that's delicious.
I stick to 100's kind of cigarettes for the same reason now. They're longer, so.. theoretically a pack lasts longer x3

In case you want to know who Haddon Sundblom is....
check out these iconic figures http://www.americanartarchives.com/sundblom.htm
There are four major cigarette distributors in the United States. These include Acme Automatic Sales, B&R Distributors, C&S Wholesale, and Cash & Carry. Of these four major distributors, only C&S wholesale and Cash & Carry, American Domestic distributors, still make Lucky Strikes available, amongst other brands. Misty, Nat Sherman, American Gold, Wave, Alpine and Djarum are other known brands carried by these companies. If you see these brands available, they also will carry Lucky Strikes.
This isn't to say, however, that these four companies are the -only- distributors. In fact, they are only four of hundreds. Often, these companies sell their cigarettes in gross, including multiple brands in one order. usually these companies have suggestions and comments areas, and if enough people comment, they may include or revive older brands. This is why some brands mysteriously appear(and disappear) from store shelves and the stores can't really give you more than a dumb look when you ask where the brands went.
If you check your local 7-11, I'll wager a gentleman's bet that you'll find your filterless Lucky Strikes.
"Non-Support Brands
Non support-brands are generally small-share brands, but have very loyal adult smokers who purchase them. Therefore, even though R.J. Reynolds will not provide marketing support for these brands, the company will maintain the brands' distribution where there is consumer demand.
Lucky Strike, Private-Label Brands, Eclipse, Monarch, Tareyton, Vantage, Carlton, More, GPC, Now"
