ChaoStudios, LLC. Commission Policy
Figured I should probably have one of these for people (and myself) to reference.
REQUESTING A QUOTE
• You must send a NOTE requesting a quote; comments anywhere in the gallery or journals requesting such information will be ignored, as I like to keep things private between myself and the buyer. Also, you must come to me for the quote; I will not note you.
• I DO NOT DO PORNOGRAPHIC OR FETISH ART. I will do tasteful nudity, but nothing of a sexual nature or involving underage characters (i.e. penetration, oral, cub porn). Please no requests for fetish pieces (i.e. vore, crush, macro, ...). Bloody/gory requests are acceptable.
• I DO NOT DO "INORGANIC" ART. This includes mechs, robots, spaceships, high-tech gadgets, or anything of an extremely ornate, sci-fi nature. I do not do this type of art because it is not my strong point, and I do not want to take your money and give you poor artwork in return. There are plenty of other artists out there who specialize in this sort of artwork. I will, however, draw the aforementioned in a more stylized, organic way that fits my style, but mechs and robots that have extreme angles and illogical designs just to be "badass"...sorry, but that's not my cup of tea.
• Prices for artwork are open to reasonable negotiations; I enjoy doing artwork for low prices as it is, so please refrain from insulting my art's value with unreasonable offers. Shipping prices, however, are non-negotiable.
• A note on quotes: For orders under $100, the final calculation is rounded to the nearest dollar (for example, $50.34 = $50, whereas $76.87 = $77); for orders over $100, the final calculation is rounded to the nearest $10 increment (for example, $234.89 = $230, whereas $197.49 = $200). This generally applies to my non-flatrate items.
• Once a price is quoted and agreed upon between buyer and artist, the quoted price will not change for any reason.
PURCHASING A COMMISSION
• I ACCEPT PAYPAL ONLY. This is a FREE service, so if you do not have a Paypal account, it is easy to set one up. To set up an account, you can do so at http://www.paypal.com.
• For flatrate items (i.e. badges, keychains, bookmarks, etc.): I require payment in full up front, including shipping. I will not begin work on the order until payment is received.
• For non-flatrate items: I require a 50% deposit before work on the order is begun. Once the order is complete, I will collect the remaining amount before delivery or upon pickup. Orders will not be shipped until the remaining amount is sent.
• There is a 20% Rush Order Fee for any orders with a deadline such as a birthday, holiday, convention, or other special occasion. Otherwise, your commission will be completed in the order it was received. Please allow two to six weeks for orders to be completed.
THE COMMISSION PROCESS
• This applies to non-flatrate items only!
• STEP 1: I will begin by doing a rough sketch of the piece. This will be VERY basic and just gets an idea of pose/position, perspective, and general composition. There is no limit on the number of rough sketches a buyer can request; however, bear in mind that the more time spent on making changes, the longer the commission process will be.
• STEP 2: Once a rough sketch is settled upon, I will move on to the clean sketch. This will be the final piece in pencil. There is a limit of three modification requests to the clean sketch; anything beyond this will incur a $5 modification fee per modification.
• STEP 3: Once the clean sketch is approved by the buyer, I will move on to inks and colors. No more modifications can be made at this point; any changes requested beyond the inks and colors step will incur a fee of 75% of the quoted price unless the artist makes a major error. Remember that all my work is traditional, so colors may be slightly off from any references, as I only have so much to work with. Colors will, however, be as close as possible.
CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS
• For flatrate items: If the cancellation is made before work on the piece is started, a full refund is given. If you decide you do not want the piece after it has been completed, there will be a refund on the shipping only.
• For non-flatrate items: The 50% down payment is non-refundable, no exceptions.
• If you cancel an order after it has been completed, you agree to let me sell said item to the public, no exceptions.
OTHER NOTES
• I am not liable for any damages incurred during shipping.
• I am not liable for any lost shipments. I include free tracking on all shipments that require a padded envelope so that you are able to track your shipment. If a shipment is lost, you are welcome to repurchase the commission plus shipping, but your order will be placed at the end of the queue and completed when possible.
• Once a piece is complete, you have two weeks to respond with your mailing address. If I do not hear from you within the two weeks, you forfeit the order and it will be sold to the public, no exceptions. If you respond after the two weeks, you have the option to purchase your piece for the public price, assuming it is still for sale.
• All non-flatrate commission pieces will be at a framable size; however, a frame is NOT included.
For those of you savvy with commission policies, if you see anything that I might be missing, please let me know! Thanks, and happy buying! :3
