"After waiting several months to see if I was applicable for the Service Dog program, I was called to visit the facility and spend a day on walkabout with Laddie, the program's Ambassador dog.
Living with a neurological disorder that impairs my mobility, I struggle with things most people take for granted: the ability to climb and descend stairs without fear of falling, the ability to take walks and hike--living an active lifestyle.
Walking a day with Laddie was amazing. I was able to go up and down stairs with a safe, reliable brace. He was able to sense when I needed to sit, and guided me to a bench. Laddie adjusted to my stride and was able to keep pace with me--and slow me down when I got too ambitious.
For a little while, I was able to walk with confidence. It was amazing. Both the director of the program, and my friend that came to the meeting, noted the difference.
Help me reclaim that independence. "
