So... who knows stuff about computers? I'm kinda having a couple issues with mine, mainly... whenever I'm playing through games I'm getting some frame rate drops and freeze frames. From what I can tell from my extremely expansive foxie knowledge, most of the processing is being done by my CPU while my GPU is more or less being left idle. Now, I'm almost certain my graphics card is working. The monitor cable is hooked up through it and such, so... I dunno what the issue is. I've re-installed drivers and such, and played with every setting from dusk till dawn. Except, probably, the ones that matter. So... um... help a pervy fawks out pwease?

Defragged the computer lately? Have virus scan? Malware? Check to see nothing is taking up an abnormal amount of CPU.?

I ish defragging now, but virus definitions came back clean. Also, I didn't see anything in the CPU processes that was taking up a lot besides the program I want running. Memory uses is only at 40% or so, but the CPU sits at 90% plus during gaming.

also check memory usage. My computer has issues like that and it all comes from the fact that my RAM is being all used up.

is it a labtop? if so the labtop works better while pluged in since the cpu and gpu eats up the power and make it laggy.

Nah, ish a desk top. No separate power supply either, just runs through a surge protector to the wall.

does your power supply have enough watts to run all the components on you computer?

sometimes people forget that the memory and graphic card need a certain wattage to run properly.

what game are you trying to run? what are your specs? I might be able to help if I had more but no garentie.

Updated with information about my computer. And I'm nearly positive that it's not a power supply issue. This is a fairly recent problem, that's only been affecting me for a month or so. Before then, it was running perfectly fine.

Techincally you should have no problem running anything. Its ddr5 memory in the graphic card damn. Could simply be the cup is over heating and trying to shut down stuff and causeing high memory usage my the safties that are in place? Are you running the game on steam with the beta update program?

Do you have another video card/have you tried swapping them out??

Also, might be farfetched (meaning not likely) but how's your RAM holding up?

Sadly, I do not. I probably would attempt it if I did, but I'm hoping to solve the issue before spending a couple hundred on a new card.

Also, I'm fairly positive it's not a RAM issue, memory usually never passes 40%.

Not really. The CPU and GPU are all but idling when I load up the games.

All I can say is it might be a virus. u.u I had one hit my laptop that made everything laggy and freeze up even though my anti-virus softwares said it was clean. If it's really giving ya that much trouble, drop it off at a best buy to their geek squad crew. They fixed mine up and told me how to prevent it and I've been free of it for months.

I'll try running definitions again while i'm at work today, maybe they'll find something.

If not, that geek squad idea is kinda a last resort, I'm still trying to do this without spending money. >^.^<

Alrighty. u.u I use Trend Micro myself and it's pretty damn good. It was able to detect the virus but was unable to remove it and said professional help was required. So brought it to geeksquad and they said it was some advanced Trojan Worm that bypasses most anti-virus software. Good luck bro. .n.

This could be caused by a number of things as mentioned above. I think the easiest thing you could do first is install SpeedFan (this is an app that'll tell you your system temperatures) and thell me what they are during gaming.

That might be an issue... I think I should probably do a through cleaning and get some more thermal paste for the CPU, but I'm not sure that's the main issue.

Cleaning yes, more thermal paste, NONONO! See thermal paste requires a very fine balance, it needs to cover the whole surface, but only that. When you apply too much of it, it's worse than if you wouldn't apply any at all. So replacing the old one with a high quiality one might work, but definitely don't add any ^^;

Yesh, that's what I meant kittah. I know just putting more on it doesn't do anything and it acts as a short range heat conductor. XD

Is this all games you're having this problem with or just certain ones? I know that some games have some bizarre requirements when it comes to their computations. Arma 2, for example, runs memory from hard drive memory instead of RAM, and is very cpu intensive. Or if you're playing online, you could just be experiencing lag. If I remember rightly there is an issue that can simply cause your PC not to run the graphical computations through your GPU. Unfortunately I can't call the details to mind right now, you'd have to do some digging.
As other people said, I'd check your cooling system thoroughly too- Realtemp is a good program for that. I used to experience a lot of stuttering before I replaced my fan setup- it was due to the CPU overheating and simply being yanked back by the system to keep it under the manufacturer's set max temperature. If you use realtemp and check "Distance to TJmax", you should ideally be seeing values of 30 or more when idle. It's ok if it rises a bit when the CPU is loaded, but if it starts getting close to 0, then you have a problem.
Other than that, nothing really stands out as an issue, you've got a pretty nice rig going on. Best of luck.

OKies, that did help out a lot. Realtemp was showing my CPU running at about 10-15 from TJ max while idle and colliding with 0 the whole time I was running a game. Thanks a bunch for the help. Now I can start working through fixing my cooling.

Ahh, there you go! Luckily cooling components aren't too pricy if you're not going too fancy with them.
