Pretty Pathetic Artist Behavior
I am seeing a lot of artists doing this whole project thing of 'I am drawing and posting this comic for free' posts a few pages... then BAM!! 'want to see more? Donate to me to keep it going'.
That is BULLSHIT!! That is a contradiction to me and a horrible one at that. Is is not free then and it sucks when someone has to be inspired by money to draw shit. If you want money for art, THAT IS WHAT COMMISSIONS ARE FOR!!
I've even seen horrible writers on here starting to do that!!
If you are gonna want donations/money to push you to do 'free stuff' then something is wrong with you...

If they wanted money for it from the get go, just make a comic and sell it to people or offer something extra for money (eg a HD version of the comic or maybe some extra art or drafts etc) just something additional for those who would choose to support with money.
But it can be see as being a prick if you are doing a comic for free and suddenly stop through it and start begging for money to make people pay you to see the rest of it. Fair enough if it was a preview of a comic that will be for sale but not if you intended it to be free all the way through.
Though that kind of behaviour does tend to prevent people from seeing what skill level they are at.
I'm working on a project where a free preview (five or six pages) will be available but in order to read the whole thing you will have to pay a small fee for a digital copy. I figure its easier to sell something if people have an idea of the characters and what the story is about. I don't care much for commissioned work and I don't see why it should be the only way for artists to make money. Long story short. If I have to spend a lot of time and effort creating something. I rather be something I'm passionate about. If I can get some money to help with bills along the way. Great!
I understand that it takes a lot of time and effort to make anything, but it is very annoying when someone said they need to be 'inspired' to complete a (free) project for their viewers when also completing commissions.
It's like won't do anything if not getting money from everyone. It is viewed as greed to me.
It's like a person promises to give another person $50 and when that is given the person will still try to get more out of them. "Give an inch, they'll take a mile."
