Rainfurrest In Review - 2013
So I was REALLY hungry for a new con, having missed AC, and many others, my last one was back in March during Vancoufur (which was awesome), but that got me thinking what cons really are about. They aren't always about the panels, the art, the artists, the dances, or fursuits... but it's about the people.
Thinking back I can see Vancoufur at least as this shining beacon of awesome. A weekend just packed full of awesome people, lots of fun, lots of socializing, and lots just going on. I kept myself busy, and had a blast. Rainfurrest this year felt really off for me. It's not that Rainfurrest was horrible, because there was way more good than bad this con, but it definately felt lacking in the 'people' aspect. Everyone it felt like was doing something, going somewhere, and doing something with someone else. New people were there for five seconds, and the whole con felt like speed dating. It somehow lacked that luster and fufilling yum feeling of fitting in, and being in a place I felt like I belonged, and thrived.
I am a social creature, and though shy at times, and sometimes reclusive at home, I always felt conventions were where I really hit it off, made new friends that would last the year or years to come, but RF was devoid of that. I didn't really seem to make or hang out with any new people, and the other older ones were already busy. It was an awkward shuffle of people.
---
Now that I'm done complaining, I will hit up a few things that I felt were awesome though.
Fursuiting, and Fursuit Dance competition. I rarely get to wear my suit but I ended up enjoying the hell out of playing around with giant shutter shades, going to the dances in and out of suit, and ultimately what the con felt like the climax; the dance competition.
I really kind of lazily prepared for the dance comp this year. Much less than VF, or RF last year, or any of the other things, but I had been practicing dance as a whole the entire year, feeling I was getting sharper, and better. The wait to get to go into the dance was probably one of the best parts I had, and was the most socializing I think I did all con. Sort of through hardship we all got to hang out, wish well with one another, and it was just a blast.
I got to meet cool people like
.
The build up, the crowd, the music, the praise. Everything about it felt good, and inspiring, and really set the rest of the con on a note above any downfalls. People enjoyed what I did, I had fun doing it, and I want to do more in the future hopefully, and better.
Ending this though I want to thank a couple people who helped make the con worth it though
