So, rye whiskey and Sprecher's Cherry Soda is amazing. Found that out last AC, and have been experimenting with several whiskeys since then. Regular cola plus grenadine and whiskey is also good. Halp, I'm turning into a whiskey nerd!

Nah, a whisk(e)y nerd is someone who can identify any of the hundreds of Scotch whiskies and Irish whiskeys by nose alone. I believe only Michael Jackson could do that.

Pfffffff! Well, I'm not that bad, but I can at least tell whether it's bourbon or Scotch by the nose.

Yeah, bourbon tends to be matured in first-generation oak casks, while Scotch is done in oak casks that were used (mostly) for sherry. When I smell or taste bourbon, all I get is raw oak.

Yeah, I dunno, personally I enjoy either and both, just depends on what I'm in the mood for. Example- I'll mix American bourbon with something, but I pretty much always drink Scotch straight.
