I'm just putting a reach out and seeing how many folks are hiding in the woodwork that are truly local-ish to the area I'm in. Wishful thinking perhaps? But hell, its worth a shot to post right here on my FA since who knows, you might be out there and didn't know I was here!
I'm interested in forming a craft night that doesn't take too much out of folks to travel to, and that means North Whidbey Island or Fidalgo Island, and those who have easy access to that small region of WA. I'm specifically about 2 miles from Deception Pass Bridge, and hoping to organize within the towns of Anacortes or Oak Harbor. As a possible suggestion for initial organization spots: Whidbey Coffee in Oak Harbor (along highway 20 by Wendy's) has a nice private-ish space with a large long table we can draw at & I can call and schedule a time to reserve the space if needed. Penguin Coffee in Anacortes, or Moka Joe Coffee (off march's point) are both more public, but both have some space for sitting & drawing, I could also call ahead and reserve tables if needed. I'm open to suggestions for other spaces as well. Once we get past initial introductions and get to know eachother a bit -- at my discretion -- I am willing to let craft nights happen at my home too. That comes later though.
Since I'm interested in forming a craft night/art jam/fursuit/cosplay making style meetup -- I'd like it to be dedicated craft time. To clarify it is not specifically a "hangout" or "furmeet" meetup, if that makes sense. You and anyone you bring will be asked to bring their own project to work on. As a goal: I'd love to see projects, and art get made, while having the opportunity to get feedback from others and share our work.
I know there's folks an hour and a half's drive further south that I love to craft with as often as possible, but just putting a shot out in the dark to see if there's anyone more local. Hope you're out there, locals!!

I'm in Seattle now,
So, um, anyway, just coming out of the woodwork and saying 'hello'!
Might I also suggest, as another possible meeting space, the Anacortes Public Library a large meeting room free for public use if you wanted a good sized space to work in.
I've lived on Whidbey Island for the majority of my life, so its always exciting to find someone from FA close by, I do a lot of hiking with my dog on Fidalgo island, and sometimes do boring stuff like going shopping in Anacortes too, haha. So maybe we've crossed paths and never knew it? Hopefully we'll get the opportunity to introduce ourselves in person.
I love your suggestion! I can't believe I didn't think of the libraries. Drawing is certainly a project to do! The goal really is for everyone to bring along their own individual project so we each have our own work to do. I've done some of my best work drawing while around others who are also drawing, it can be pretty inspiring and easy to get a lot done in a short amount of time. Part of why I wanted to start something creative closer to home. Do you have any other artist friends nearby that might be interested in joining too?
I'll keep in touch as plans (hopefully) move forward for this local art jam/craft time.
Drawing, for me, is a pretty personal and solitary activity. I've tried to draw at Emerald city ComicCon when I had an artist alley table a few times, and I found it very difficult to draw when people were around. Which is not to say that I'm not interested in joining in, however. I'm willing to give it a shot. It just may take a while for me to warm up to the concept.
Certainly, by all means keep in touch! Hopefully more crafty artist will manifest themselves.
