A good gaming laptop costs more than a good gaming desktop. and then you know that the heat will be worse for a laptop due to it being further enclosed.

$1200 and that was about 2 years ago almost. My laptop still makes people jealous cause it's better than their gaming desktops.
I can run my CPU at 120% for 10 hours a day or more and the heat levels only reach 170F, my mothers desktop reaches 185F doing the same thing.
i7 3.1Ghz | nVidia GeForce GTX 560m 2GB VRAM, 4 slots for 16GB RAM, 2 taken by 4GB for 8GB total DDR3 RAM right now.

i7 950 clocked at 3.07ghz(though I might OC it), 16gb of DDR3 ram clocked at 1633mhz I believe, and two GTX 670 FTWs.

This laptop is 2 years old, what were the specs of your machine back then? :P Now think of my specs 2 years ago and consider how good they are for being $1200 at that time. Also consider that I can still play any game new or old created so far on maximum graphics, at least that I have tested.

Haha, SLI in a laptop would be awesome. But this thing is already 15 pounds or so. Painful to carry around with my weak body. :P

You don't need to overclock i7. Turbo boost comes default with all i7s. If it's default speed is 3.0GHz, it'll 50% turbo when needed to 4.5GHz if I am right. Like mine is 2.2GHz and it goes up to 3.1GHz.

Her CPU is fairly close to the same as mine, slightly better, and I believe it may possibly be 4th gen, maybe 3rd gen. Not sure. A desktop is supposed to have better cooling though due to the fact it has a more powerful fan and it's got more space inside. If I can run my CPU at 120% each thread and my GPU at 100% for 10 hours and my laptop not go over 175F, I'd say that's pretty decent, I don't even feel the temp through my keyboard all that much and the battery which is now 2 years old doesn't feel the heat either even though it's practically dead center of the laptop. Some laptops are built well, this one is desktop class performance. Sure it may not be as powerful as a desktop with all the same grade stuff, but I have yet to meet a single game I can't play on maximum graphics without lag. Crysis, Crysis 3, Just Cause 2, Starcraft 2, Uh. I dunno any other high end games. :P

Her machine is brand new, as in less than several months old. That does not mean her desktop is better than my laptop just because it's a desktop. It means that my laptop is TWO YEARS OLD and her machine is TWO MONTHS old.

Brand name, as if she'd know how to build a computer, she can barely use one. :P

I love this GPU. I run Seti@home and it finishes 10-30 tasks in the time it takes my 8 thread CPU to do 8 tasks. Not to mention I can still play any game in the world so far no issues. Though lately I've been playing Lords of the Realm II which kinda barely takes 0.0001% of my GPU's power. My GPU probably thinks "AM I idle? I can't tell.".
