When I was younger I didn't know the existence of shinies and only in recent years have I gotten any. 99% of which are ones that were either traded to me from people better at getting them, hacked in (only two though because they were legendaries), special event or from my tediously breeding hundreds of eggs or doing that trick in I think diamond/pearl were you used repeals and made the grass shake.
I've caught three random ones before but they were all terrible pokemon or their colors were terrible. Shiny Yanma is so pretty though and I'm like ahhhh <3

The Pokeradar was one of the most frustrating, poorly-documented activities ever conceived in a Pokemon game...And yet I kind of miss having something like it.
I resetted ~11000 times for a shiny wild Giratina in Platinum, and when I finally got it, it was my pride and joy. Most of my other shinies came from abusing the nature of the Random Number Generator in Platinum (if you timed pressing A through the intro screens correctly with your DS clock set to a certain time, you could guarantee yourself the correct 'seed' to get a shiny out of an egg). At most, I've caught 2-3 legit natural shinies in all the games I've played, and Pokeradar'd a handful.
That one method sound complicated with setting the clock and pressing A and what not. Though I should try it XD In my one game I've hatched some 500 vulpix eggs with no shiny in sight. But on the other hand I hit luck jackpot after hatching some 200 eevee eggs I somehow managed a shiny female eevee X3 She is now a lovely shiny umbreon :3
Most of the time when I get a luck of the draw random shiny its been something like an unown, smoochum and Floatzel. So one attack wonder, pokemon I hate and pokemon that I won't ever use with meh colors XD
