Life updates.

Hey everyone~.
I'm slowly trying to get back into the swing of things, but I'm still feeling very very tired. I've been taking iron supplements (and getting B12 shots) for several weeks now but I still only really get a few hours a day of feeling truly alert it seems and it's very very hard to fight the urge to just nap.
I think I may be having an issue really properly absorbing my iron supplement so I'm going to ask about that on Thursday when I go back in for my next B12 shot. I'm going to start taking it with some orange juice and see if it makes a difference, but I think I'm supposed to have blood work done this week so I'll have a better idea of how my anemia is doing and if I'm on the upswing.
I also continue to have just one swollen gland on the right side of my neck that isn't really a problem as much as it worries me and is annoying. My doctor tells me that anemia can make it easier to pick up little infections that pass through so hopefully it's just some isolated thing (I used to get a random swollen gland in my left armpit all the time that just seemed like localized randomness but that hasn't been an issue in a long time so hopefully it's the same sort of thing?)
I also had my last appointment with my cardiologist last week, had a stress test, got the word back on my other tests, etc. My heart looks good! Apparently I have some sort of congenital malformation of my mitral valve but, in my doctor's words, "It shouldn't cause you any problems for another 40 years, if ever" so that's good news!
I've heard it can take months to really feel like yourself again when recovering from anemia so I'm feeling a bit down, but also trying to be optimistic that I'll be totally alert again some day, haha. I'm at LEAST doing better than I was, goddamn. As much as I'm complaining right now I am really grateful that I've seen an improvement.

Orange juice doesn't actually have a lot of vitamin C so while you are correct to try and see if you can get the absorption of nonheme iron sources to absorb with the help of vitamin C I would honestly recommend a supplement. Be sure to get a vitamin C supplement that has bioflavinoids so that your body can process the vitamin C!
The real good sources of vitamin C are things like green chilis, guava, blood oranges, dark leafy greens, things like that! Get some guava juice if you don't particularly like supplements and it should do the trick.
The pharmacist would have the correct supplements with the right things I imagine but you still have to look at these things sometimes.
If it's any consolation lots of the vitamin C supplement I have seems to be working out for me and I don't feel as tired.
