So, what's been going on?
With Michi and I, quite a bit, actually.
Still been more offline than on, mostly busy at work and working on getting us set up with Obamacare and making our place more affordable.
Well, to the latter point we were able to find a little luck with our finances and are now in the process of leaving for Canada on Wednesday for a kind of wedding anniversary-slash-weekend getaway kind of vacay - our first real one in almost three years! Come Friday, October 25, Michi and I will be celebrating our Ten-Year Anniversary, and man - it amazes both of us how long it's been! It's pretty kick-ass that we'll be able to celebrate it in my Silly Girl's hometown of Toronto, and we can't wait (especially Michi, who's starting to bounce off the walls at the thought of it). :)
Art-wise, I am determined to get SOMEthing out by month's-end, either the zombie bunneh pic I was going to release last year, or another ep of Critters. Or, both! We'll see. Our attention might be to packing right now, but when I get back I'll be sure as hell wanting to turn it to drawing, so, stay tooned... :)

Congrats on being together for 10 years! That's incredible! I hope you two have fun in Canada! I've always wanted to visit there!
Given how slowly things seem to go for is it doesn't seem like all that much has changed in the past ten years. Until, that is, we stopped to take a look at a wedding album. It was only then, when I saw some of the people who are no longer in our lives, did I come to realize the passage of time. Neither of us can scarcely believe it, because in no way does it seem that long! Yeah, we've seen a lot in our time together, but one thing that has never changed is how much I love my Silly Girl, or how glad I am to have married her.
If you ever have the wherewithall, I would HIGHLY recommend Toronto. You'll run out of money before you run out of things to do!
Wed., Oct. 23: Michi met me at work (she worked an early morning shift whereas I worked my usual 8-5 day but got off half and hour early) and after transferring luggage we left from there (since I already work in the northern 'burbs). Stopped just north of Dayton, OH in Vandalia for dinner (at Max & Erma's - nom!), then Michi took over driving to Toledo. Switched when she started getting tired and stopped for the night just south of Detroit, MI, at our tried and true stopping point at Woodhaven.
Thurs., Oct. 24: Had breakfast at the hotel and continued on. Ran into bad traffic in downtown Detroit. When we got to the front we saw why - a sedan utterly plowed one of those large mobile construction message boards and in a stellar example of epic fail had pieces of the thing strewn all over two lanes of the three-lane highway. Crossed the border at Port Huron, then stopped for lunch east of London, ON. We were behind schedule but didn't think too much of it until we reached Missassauga. Toronto rush hour traffic is epic, and if you don't reach Missassauga by 3pm, you're screwed if you're heading east. We didn't make it there until after 3. Finally got home to Oshawa in the early evening and had our traditional homecoming dinner with Michi's dad and brother at Swiss Chalet. By evening we were pretty much settled in an in for the evening.
Fri., Oct. 25: Michi and I took the train from Oshawa to Union Station in downtown T-dot and met her half-sister, Shannon, (and husband) for the very first time. Long story there, but basically Michi's half-sister already met and was welcomed into the family early this year, but because of lack of financing, opportunity, and just plain lack of nerves, we were the last in her family to meet Shannon. It was a little awkward at first, but as we walked along Front St. things started coming together. Visited St. Lawrence market (one of "our places") and all the fantastic sights and smells therein, the Hockey Hall of Fame for souvenirs, and then off to lunch at the Spaghetti Factory. Walked back to the train station and parted ways.
There were quite a few changes that we noticed since we were there two years ago. One of which was Ripley's Aquarium of Canada that we heard was now in the shadow of the CN Tower. So, after we said goodbye to Shannon and her husband we continued on exploring downtown. Found the aquarium but didn't go in. Something about the $70 it would have cost us and all.
By then it was late afternoon and we thought about heading back, but figured we'd make a station stop at Danforth to walk around the neighborhood that Michi grew up in. Until, that is, I saw a small railroad museum across the street from the aquarium/Tower and suddenly we had a new idea. What can I say? I'm a train nerd...but have a very understanding wife. Here's two pics:
By the time we were done and back to Oshawa station it was early evening and dinnertime. Since it was our anniversary we had intended on going to an upscale restaurant and movie afterwards, but fate seems to have a tendency to change plans. In our case, since we already had a large lunch at the Spaghetti Factory, you would probably laugh at where we ultimately wound up deciding to eat: Tim Horton's! Funnier still was what happened next. The evening Timmy's crew seemed to consist of teenaged newbies so of course our order of two bowls of chicken noodle soup and two coffees were screwed up. The manager was very nice and apologetic, but ultimately we opted to just have our money refunded and leave to go somewhere else. But we did get free coffees out it so... Went to Boston Pizza to split a bowl of soup there and watched the Pens-Bluejackets hockey game instead since all the movies we wanted to see had either just started or weren't going to show again for hours. We couldn't help but laugh at this comedy of errors that was our anniversary night, considering the night before our wedding was also a comedy of errors. At least this time, we were okay with how things turned out (although the Pens lost, which made had a sad... ).
Sat., Oct. 26: In the early afternoon Michi, her dad, brother and I met up with rest of Michi's overall family in Pickering in a kind of family get-together that I secretly orchestrated as a ten-year anniversary gift to her (but she still wound up finding out about shortly before I was ready to announce it). Had a great time catching up on everything since the last time we were there, and even met some of Michi's cousins I hadn't met before.
By evening, when the party was over Michi and I went to nearby East Side Mario's for a bite to eat and to take in the game of all games - the Pittsburgh Penguins versus the Toronto Maple Leafs in hockeytown, Canada - Toronto! The Leafs are, of course, Michi's favorite team. Mine is a little more complicated. I like the Leafs and the Pens equally, so I solved the dilemma simply by rooting for the Pens when we're south of the border, and the Leafs when we're north. So, would I do if the two played each other? Root for both!
Or, so the plan went.
Maybe it was the fact that Pittsburgh lost the other night. Maybe it was because of my joy of seeing my fave player in the personage of Sidney Crosby. Maybe it was because we're so used to seeing the Penguins play. But whatever the reason, I found myself rooting more for Pittsburgh until by game's end it was pretty much obvious that Toronto was going to win, and handily so. Michi, of course, was all happy and pumped. Me, not so much. But that was how our evening went down.
Sun., Oct. 27: Michi and I met up with some old friends of ours at the house of a girl Michi went to school with. Had an awesome time catching up, considering we hadn't gotten together in so long! This time, us guys voluntarily left to walk down to the local Timmy's to talk guys stuff instead of being kicked out by our wives so fair like what happened last time, so they can talk about girl stuff.
Sadly, all things must come to an end and we were off by late afternoon to head for our American home. Stopped at the same place for dinner that we did for lunch coming up, and at night stopped at the same hotel we did coming up.
Mon., Oct. 28: Picked things up again in Woodhaven in the morning and headed for home.
it sounds liekyou had a good time!!!!! when are you gonna visit again? are you gonna move there? (you said the US was an 'american home' so was wondering of that was a hint)
Here they are:

We had an awesome time! Unfortunately, we don't know when we'll be back. We'd like to hope that it'd be around Christmas but there's next to no hope that that will actually happen.
Oh, we're well on our way of planning for our inevitable emigration to Canada. Recent events, however, have our projections pushed back by several years. But we're still hoping to get there eventually.
LOVE the pics!!!! the train museum looks so cool!!!!! do you miss it? (laughs)
(and yeah, the train museum IS uber cool, and at $5 per person to get in, totally worth it)
Primarily what we need to move is to sell our house and for me to find a job making what I do here - the latter in short supply up there ATM (Michi's work has stores in Canada and could transfer her). Unfortunately, it's the old chicken and egg thing - how to move without already having a decent job, and how to get a decent job without being close to where the jobs are.
are u guys planning kids? maybe look into schools too!
Well, unfortunately, there's a difference between finding a job and finding decent work. Finding a piss-ant job that just gives you a few dollars isn't anywhere near as hard as trying to find a career job that lets you pay the bills. Those are much harder to find.
Yes, I can say that our days of hedonism are sadly waning and kids are, in fact, on the horizon. We're talking in the next year or so. So, when we move it'll be with a little one in tow. And yeah, schools will be one of the things we'll have to look at before we do.
and good luck with havig a baby!! in this economy, that's goign to be a real challenge affording a house and a little one!
Right now we're working on one before the other. But we're laying the groundwork beforehand anyway. You won't believe how expensive baby clothes are!! They're, like, the price of adult clothes! Michi gets a nice discount on stuff where she works, so needless to say we're stockpiling clothes, some on a steep discount (discounts on top of discounts).
also ummmmm hows your cartoon??? love the plot, but its taking so long to copmplete! Liiiike um over 2 years (GIGGLE)
Oh, if only I didn't have to spend so much of my waking hours at work! Work really is the curse of the drawing class.
Or is that the drinking class? Anyway, it's a curse...
Oh, that sounds so romantic! How did you two meet, if you don't mind me asking?
OH I definitely will make a trip out there!
I was actually engaged to someone else at the time, but when that ended, Michi's friend came up and said, "Funny you should mention that. I have someone who I think would be perfect for you!" Set things up between Michi and I and the rest, as they say, is history.
