Coloring vs. Anatomy?
I've noticed that a majority of artists are at a high level in there digital coloring/shading. Albeit this high quality all looks exactly the same. But I've also noticed that basic anatomy, perspective, positioning, unique-characteristics(like facial and body structure differences), and overall proportions are incredibly lacking in this art. Are watchers more inclined to bright sickeningly organized colors with trivial repetitive subject-matter? Or is it some obscure need that I've noticed in this newest generation were you define yourself with a brand and group? Has the individuality and quality of art been pressed aside for a more factory like marketable product? I recall a time when I first became a part of this fandom and art was at a high quality in all regards, anatomy being one of them, and to even be considered among of its best you had to be a paragon of all these facets, but now I see the colorful throw-up of a Amorphous art style being showered with praise. I just would like to know what happened? and why?
This is not a attack on others or anything of the sort, I am just curious, but also saddened by this trend.

FA+

It's pretty flustering for me to hear and see first hand with people coming to me saying 'which tablet do you think i should get? if i can color i can finally make some money on art' but their anatomy is lacking in all sorts of ways and i'm like....coloring bad anatomy won't make it look any better....but then yet there are examples of people who are proving that point wrong right at this moment so....I really don't know.
But I do agree.
That said, I guess since technology has gotten so much better and accessible some artists practice in those elements first? And I suppose for some colorful visuals are enough to catch their attention and appeal.
Though honestly, they're both so different in end result appearance that I want to get really good with both media types. ^_^
>> Are watchers more inclined to bright sickeningly organized colors with trivial repetitive subject-matter?
The answer is yes, specially with the FA crowd which tends to be of the younger generation, pop art, cartoon art, anime art has a higher chance of appeal over realism.

No, It just so happens the the serious artists go to *drumroll* serious art websites (someplace where, the general demographic is not looking simply for fap material). If you are viewing all furry art through FA, then you are missing out!
Not questioning you, just curious. I made an account on Weasyl but I wouldn't mind an account on another website with a stronger sense of seriousness and improvement. :)
If you want to go to more serious art sites then you have to drop the idea of furries. Furries by main stream are still seen as mainly as pornographic in nature.
You want say furries are fantasy/sci-fi creatures or go the fan art road.

And yeah, that's kinda the problem I've been facing. I don't necessarily want a site that's only furries or even majority furries like FA. Just a general art site that's furry friendly like Weasyl. I do hope that site makes it off the group sometime. I'm trying to expand into other things, but I enjoy ferals and furries most so that's what I draw the most. :/

Colors in general draws people in, because erroneously most folks think of B&W as unfinished work. Look at the backlash that "Sin City" got because the movie was mostly B&W.
Everyone likes color, including artists. This means that faced with an opportunity to jump right into putting awesome color on stuff people will do so. I look at some of the stuff I used to do and my color choices just make my eyes hurt; I'm not an expert now, but better than I used to be. There's this subtlety to getting bright color without getting headache-inducing hypersaturated technicolor hues. Figuring out realistic color seems to be this weird mix of learning to be more daring in choosing value while being more subdued in choosing hue and saturation, and that hasn't been easy for me; I'm still trying.
I think my skill level is fairly average for this fandom really, so I figure that if I'm making those mistakes, plenty of other people are making them too.
Also, many times, shading and coloring are easier things to spot, take note of, and improve on as compared to basic anatomy. At least, it feels that way to me.
Finally, why they look alike may be because some of these great artists were looked up to by others who are now considered great artists themselves. At least, this might be part of the reason. Also, we lot of people draw to please others (either to get noticed or to sell commissions) and will draw what they think is pleasing to the general population, which probably accounts for part of the issue.
I do agree though that so many times great artists do the same body and face types again and again. Even for artists making differences in species, it's very similar. And in times they do try to account for different body times, it's typically just the more extreme ends. Which is a bit of a shame because the different body types and facial structures are awesome. That's one thing I want to incorporate more into my artwork and character designs. I've got some fluffeir characters, some skinner ones, some bulkier ones, some tall and some short. But I see the same body types a lot. Particularly when I commission my 'sona. She's a shortie with a bit of a belly. Not fat, just lots of fluff and things to hug. She's like me in body type. But so many people struggle with drawing her and many times she comes out skinner than she really should be. I don't mind it. I just find it interesting for the most part.
Sometimes I'll draw more cartoony than i usually do but I still try to make the anatomy make sense, although I still suck at it but I try to improve on anatomy whenever I can. As for my coloring it usually also blows and I feel a lot of my pictures looked a lot better when they were just sketches.
someone who understands my pain.
