Cartoons of the Week -- Lou Scheimer Tribute
12 years ago
General
One of the original founders of the late Filmation Studios died last week. To remember him, and to keep within this month's theme of Halloween cartoons, I present the following:
The Groovie Goolies perform "Monster Trio":
The Archies, featuring Sabrina the Teenaged Witch (her original character design):
I know that not everybody liked these Filmation staples, but suffice it to say that not everyone hated them, either. If you want to comment on these, please refrain from snarking, just this once. Thanks.

"Mr. Factory" was another memorable one...

Archie once introduced "Mr Factory" by saying, "And now for a song that you'll never forget..." Darned if he wasn't right! Believe it or not, that clip was actually one of the more upbeat versions of the song -- at least Jughead managed to save the little fish. A different animated version showed the fish already dead, and when the "birds are disappearing" line was sung, a bird was shown being overcome by smog and dropping lifelessly from the sky to land right next to the dead fish. Pretty heavy stuff for a kid's Saturday morning show!
Furries: Think what you will about Filmation, but they gave us the animated Star Trek. Which gave us Lt. Mress. Nuff said!
