What's been going on with me

So I've had a really shitty couple of days due to physical ailments that you may have heard bits and pieces of if you've seen some of my tweets. Last week I went into the on-campus student health center for this boil type thing on my right armpit that I originally thought was armpit chaffing but as it got bigger I knew what it was. I've had one of these before on my chest that was cut open and drained (took about two weeks to heal) The PA and nurse there said it was just an infection caused by shaving my chest (which was bullshit cause I don't shave there) I believe this to be MRSA (Methicilin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) or some other type of staph infection. You may remember this from the news covering the epidemic of it about 6 years ago. But anyway, I had to request that they take a culture and test it. The doctor this time agreed while the nurse who was there the first time was still stubborn. They made about a three-inch cut on it (which was excessive) to drain it. Now I'm in the recovery process which persists of keeping the wound from closing up cause it has to heal from the inside out and continually packing it with absorbent foam. This hurts like hell. I can't move my right arm without it hurting (guess which hand I write with? :D) So I'm stuck at my place unless I absolutely need to leave and have to get it redressed constantly which is really painful. I should hear from the test results tomorrow to see if it is MRSA. My dad (an emergency physician) is coming down tomorrow to look at it and wants to have a surgeon look at it cause he's just as annoyed with the health center employees as I am. This has already taken a toll mentally and physically. It's like a constant burning with spikes of sharp pain at slight movements. I'm trying my best to stay positive but also need the occasional yell and cry in my pillow. Just wanted to put this out there so I'm not repeating the same story over and over.

From my experience with on-campus health center- just don't do it. It might be free, but they have NO clue about anything past like a common cold. I would go to a GP or specialist in your area instead! I hope you feel better and get well, soon! If it is even potentially MRSA, I hope they started you on at least a low antibiotic!!

OP
It's not MRSA but it's MSSA so it's still staph infection but it's sensitive to a few antibiotics (which is really good news) so I'm on some and hoping it improves!

I hope so, too!! Good to know what it is, and what you can do to treat it :) Get better soon!

I seriously doubt that it is MRSA, I work as a paramedic for Hanover County, VA and I have done several rotations at MCV's triage and trauma unit and seen some pretty cool cases. However, staph most commonly presents as a rash-like symptom. What you have might just be a simple skin tag, which can be managed with topical solutions. But unless I see it, I can't be the better judge. HOWEVER... if it so happens to be staph, rest assured that it is treatable, and you are just seconds away from THE BEST medical center in the state. You are in great hands kiddo.
