That's my baby...on the back of a tow truck.
Something went wrong the night before when I drove it home. A strange rattle came from the engine, but no lights on the dash came on to tell me something failed. I stopped and started it a few times, and I was only around the corner so I managed to limp her home, but now she won't start. I'm not mechanically inclined enough to know what's happened, so she's going to a mechanic for further diagnosis.
Watch this space for updates.
Update: mechanic's been called. haven't finished full diagnosis but they say it's 99% guaranteed to have been my timing belt snapping prematurely.

When you tried to restart it, did it sound normal? Or did it sound more like a cordless drill/electric motor whirring with no load? If so, I have bad news for your wallet.
I'm assuming the worst too...the infamous belt of doom...
The car was sold to me with a 5 year warranty on it...so I maaay be lucky. Just maybe.
Check engine light is usually for a non obvious emissions related fault that you can't see or hear but will effect driveability, though some faults are obvious.
Oil light means stop, stop now, don't start the car again. Tow car straight to mechanic, do not pass go, do collect $200 to give to mechanic.
