My Halloween ruled, caused fucking mayhem XD

It's always kinda slow in my neighbourhood. But this year it also rained most of the night.

Heh, same thing happened in my area. Rained for most of the day so Halloween was a no-go unless you didn't mind swimming to get candy. :U

We got a few brats at our house.


But it was pitiable compared to last year.

People don't respect Halloween anymore. They treat it like its some throw away holiday or no reason for anything. If you deny Halloween you deny everything that makes being a kid fun; Dressing up, acting a fool, and demanding candy. I am 30 years old, and I fucking went Trick-Or-Treating in a full costume I made myself because I'm sick of people not respecting the holiday and I'm also sick of kids not wearing costumes and expecting candy. You can call me a fool for doing it but I'm a fool who had fun and has a pillow case full of candy so enjoy your high-horse while I enjoy my Skittles and Crunch Bars.

Someone would need a lot of time and effort to go through that. And besides, if someone did do that now at days, you can be it would be on the national news immediately.

There's already been cases reported. For example,I booted up today and on AOL some kid who went trick or treating early found a razor blade in his M&Ms. So,yeah,check that shit.

My mother made me do that each year when I was younger. We'd all sit down at the table and check each candy and some of them was already opened which meant that was not good to eat and was thrown away.

To a lot of people it's just become another consumer-whore holiday like Valentine's Day that the candy companies use to make a killing. It's kind of funny how many folks in this generation don't even know jack about Halloween's origins or what it was initially about.

Sadly, it's just a sign of how distant and detached people are getting these days. So many would rather send text messages all day long than actually TALK on the phone with someone, just like how they'd rather be "social" on Facebook instead of actually going out and doing things like ... ya know ... trick or treating.

I'm also going to call BS on people making the excuse of it being too "dangerous" for kids today, too. What the hell kind of parents aren't TAKING their kids trick or treating? If they're not, it's not "protectiveness" it's sheer laziness. x_x

I have an issue with parents who are so lazy that they drive along sitting their fat asses in their cars and shadowing their kids while they walk along the side walk trick-or-treating, but at least they have their kid out having fun, rather then someone who keeps their kid inside.

Its all just been down hill over the years. I remember as a kid all the TV stations having halloween specials on, claymation specials and animated specials and all kinds of fun stuff, but now at days you are lucky if they have halloween themed episodes of regular TV shows. Cartoon network only shows lame-ass scooby doo stuff (I have always disliked scooby doo. Yes, its some jackass in a mask, we get it).

Ditto on the Scooby Doo thing. To this day I still can't wrap my brain around how that show's lasted all these decades in its endless incarnations. It's be one thing if they at least attempted to be even remotely clever with the "mysteries" but they all give the impression they were stories written by a 10-year-old. x_x

Eh,most kids go trick or treating at malls these days. It's less "dangerous". It also seems like it'd be less fun. I mean,really. Walking around a mall or going out and demanding goodies or you'll egg their house. So you probably won't see much in the way of traditional trick or treating anymore. Which is sad.

Honestly I wouldn't know how mine went. I had to work during, but hey it was at a night club so it wasn't too boring.

Trick or treating was pretty active back when I used to live in Wisconsin, though I lived right across the street from an elementary school lol. Now though, there weren't many kids out.

My apartment complex doesn't let kids come in searching for candy. Made me sad...

But we got plenty and it's just that a lot of kids are locked into the stupid mindset of "MATURE people don't trick or treat!" or "gotta update my facebook/tumblr/etc profile!"

Mine was full and we gave them full sized candy.

I put part of the blame on parents who aren't willing to put in the effort to go with their kids trick or treating and check their candy afterwards. Seems half the time people say how unsafe trick or treating is the problem can be solved by a more attentive parent.

Seriously, only had 11 kids show tonight.

It's strange... We didn't have any trick-or-treaters come to the door this year either.

Also I've noticed a lot of parents do this "Trunks for Treats" thing now. A bunch of families go to a predetermined spot and let the kids go from trunk to trunk to collect candy. It's understandable to do something like that in rural areas, but it happens more in suburban areas from what I heard.

No one trick or treats around my area. haven't seen a single pumpkin carving or anything. the only time I've seen trick or treaters was when I was doing it and that was 1995. holiday has been dead in the water for at least 10 years for my area.

Where I lived everyone had to do it early or barely at all due to a huge storm that is still hitting.

I'm still at my parent's place, and the neighborhood hasn't really changed. It's still the same people as when i was a kid, so most of the "children" around here are in their mid to late 20's. So..not a lot around here any more. There's a new development about a 8 minute walk from here with lots of kids, but there's rarely bleed over to this side of the street, plus we had a really bad storm last night.

My parents had 20 or so kids, down from 50 or so normally. Back when I was a kid it was closer to 200.

Mine was dead due weather.

It rained here all Halloween, so it was understandable not to see many "Trick-Or-Treaters". I saw a few on the train...but literally only two. Though I did notice a lack of girls in provocative costumes. That's usually the norm for Halloween. Again I blame the rain.

Everyone was busy playing Team Fortress.

I think we actually got a few more kids than last year. I usually sit outside to greet them, but I didn't stay out as long this year.

Only got a few kids this year in my neighborhood as well, less than last year...though, I think it may be partly due to the very rainy weather for the past couple days in my area, until the sun finally came out around the early afternoon yesterday.

I'm going to place the blame on the media, particularly the 20/20 documentaries. The documentaries are mostly negative. I think that society is tremendously cynical now, we mostly distrust people. Even to the point of looking weirdly at individuals who perform nice gestures for us.

I think it all depends on where you live. The street on the opposite side of my block had a whole mass of trick-or-treaters early in the evening before the sun was completely down, but when it got dark, it was almost dead silent in my neighborhood. Not a single soul on my side of the block, either. In either case, me and my parents have gradually stopped giving out candy each year 'cuz our neighbors were robbed of their whole bowl of candy by a couple of teenagers. If I recall, they were robbed at gunpoint, but I'm pretty sure I'm wrong on that.

But, I also don't blame commercialism for slowly killing the holiday. I mean, come on! They've been running a Kit-Kat advert on TV with trick-or-treaters in the daylight.

IN THE DAYLIGHT! That is NOT Halloween, no matter what you say! I just don't get why companies and, even worse, parents have to go and completely rework traditions that they find to be so harmful to their kids when it's really nothing. Sure, Halloween can be occasionally dangerous and it's a tradition that promotes witchcraft, darkness and evil. But, that's why it's our job to just disregard and resist the evils of Halloween and enjoy its more entertaining and fun-loving qualities.

Due to safety concerns, many communities do specific events at a location like a church or community center, in which parents can bring their kids in costume to get candy and participate in activities. Some malls even have events where kids can go trick-or-treating from store-to-store. That has kind of killed the tradition of going door-to-door. I think kids still go out in some suburban communities. It also seems more about adults going to parties at homes or bars for costume contests offering cash prizes. The whole sexy costume thing seems to be what it's about these days. I miss the way things used to be, and admittedly it became more about tricks than treats for me as a kid, but hey, things change.

Also the Halloween traditions we grew up on were commercial in nature to begin with, so commercializing isn't the issue.

I think that sadly, Halloween has been suppressed, if not killed. In this religiously motiviated, politically correct society, people are either too "holy" *snrk* or too unwilling to do anything to scare kids. And in this increasingly sad world where children can't be put in ANY kind of danger, no matter how slight, it goes to extremes. Parents think everyone who is giving out candy has poisoned it. Kids go trick or treating when it's still full daylight outside because it's "dangerous" for kids to go out after dark! Even if they get candy, they're not allowed to eat it because of parents obsessed with dieting and calorie intake and health this and health that.

Today, I went into Dunkin Donuts and a parent was telling her daughter a chocolate donut with chocolate frosting was WAY too much chocolate for her. At the same time, she was telling the daughter she wanted to split a pint of milk, because "she didn't want to drink too much herself; too much fat". ...Since when can a child not handle a single donut, no matter what it's made of?

As things stand, Halloween represents all those things people don't want to exist(or at least want to pretend don't exist. Sugar intake, scary things, staying up after dark, kids having fun, monsters, non religious things. It's a horrible state of events.

Mine was the opposite. I had 5 huge bags worth with a total of around 800 pieces and I ran out and had to dip into my emergency stash. And I was hoping I would have tons of spare candy for myself for the next month too.

I only had 2 trick or treaters... Kinda sad, and I have so much candy left.

Halloween doesn't seem like something kids actually WANT to do these days. It's become another occasion for parents to dress them up and parade them around.
