I have a somewhat serious question to ask...
So, I’ve wanted a pet for the longest time, but I’ve always run into issues with that we would often travel to soccer games and such for my sister and my dad is allergic to a lot of different pet fur, but mostly cats and dogs while I’m highly allergic to cats. Well, I can drive now and my parents are able to leave me home on the weekends they go to visit my sisters, so the amount of time spent away from home has significantly decreased. I wanted to ask if anyone has had experience with small animals that are good pets? I’m not really looking for a reptile either, but something I can interact with. Can anyone give me some pros and cons as well as any experiences they have had?

They can be quite stinky and their poop smells awful. You'd have to get a cage that you could clean easily, but for the most part, ferrets are very self sufficient. You can leave some water and enough food from a gravity feeder and he'll be good for a weekend. Ferrets are super friendly and they are really fun to play with, especially if you have more than one!
Though, like I said, they can smell pretty bad, and I get a feeling your dad would be allergic to them. I had to keep my ferret out in the backyard because we could not keep him inside of the house due to the smell.
Guinea pigs makes AWESOME pets as well as small birds :3 I've had over 7 pigging since maybe.. 13.. 14 years ago? A long time XD But you have to get two unless you can give one a lot of attention. If there's two, they can keep each other enough company that you don't have to give them TONS of attention. Fresh water and food daily, and clean bedding and they'll be happy little furballs :3 They also require more vitamin C as they cannot produce their own, which can be supplemented in the form of whole strawberries, just toss a few in maybe a few times a week and they'll be happy :3 They also love carrots and dark leafy greens like kale or collared greens. Iceburg lettuce and celary aren't really good for them. They also like grapes, apple, banana peels, the list can go on and on!! XD
As for small birds if you have any interest in them they're A LOT more you must know before even considering getting one, I'm afraid it's too much to type here but birds are definitely amazing, I have 3 small birds and I can easily say they are the most interactive pets a person can have. While a dog clings to you because well, it's a dog. A bird is like your kid, they respect you but also will be bossy and have attitudes sometimes, they're VERY intelligent, can learn to talk, can be affectionate, etc.. But they're not for people who don't have enough time to spare. For a small bird, about 3 hours of interaction a day is good, sometimes my birds go with no interaction on work days and they're fine. Lots of fun toys and extra treats can help with those days. But birds really do require lots and lots of research :3 And they have feathers, which they molt and you can collect. Guinea pigs shed a lot XD If you're interested in either I'd say a bird would be a better option if you want affectionate or social interaction from an animal. Guinea pigs can be skittish and will run away, but a bird WANTS to be with you and play or cuddle.
haha sorry, it's like.. this random stranger came along and spewed stuff about animals to ya XD But if you are interested in learning more about either one of these or even both just note me or reply with any questions and I'll happily share with yous my guinea pig/parrot knowledge :3
I'm disappointed because due to the fact i am going to be leaving for college in about two years I cannot take one in until I can live off campus :C but still, better to look at my options early.
Thank you for your info though! I actually am very much considering getting a cockatiel in the future. I am really into pets I can bond with and be more interactive with, so they seem more ideal. I will have to see how busy I am once I am in college though, I can't take care of a pet like a cockatiel if I can't give it the attention it needs.
Thanks for the info though, I'll definitely think about then when i can finally get something ouo
