I wonder if I should quit my job to do art...

Hear me out. I only make about 100 bucks every paycheck.
I don't draw as fast as I used to because I really see no need to put out art. There was a period where I spat out a piece every two days.. and I miss being that productive. I figure if I'd NEED to draw, I'd be throwing a few a week, no doubt.
Here's my expense per month:
Insurance - $50
Dog: - $30-50
Gas - $30+
I feel like I'd be able to make that in commissions.
Anyway, it's just a thought. If I were to leave, it's be after Christmas.

Two things.
1) Very few people are able to make money solely off the fandom, with many trying. It's hard.
2) This is predicated on your expenses not going up.
3) And missing work history, even if it's not much anyway, is bad for finding a traditional-real-world job.
I would suggest opening up more commissions. I'd also suggest trying to auction off commission slots, see how that works for you (Based on YCH stuff, it ought to be the same or better than regular pricing).
Don't go cold turkey into this, open up commissions and start seeing how things go. Maybe hit up a few cons that have a low(to you) cost and sell sketches.
Yet, I'm pretty sure it's going to happen sooner or later.
For instance, my pay check this Friday will have around $40 on it. I can draw a $40 image in 5 hours without even having to put pants on. Also, I may be able to do 2 or 3 $40 commissions in one week; Unlike my work, where I've been cut to only working once a week for 5 hours.
The variables are, like you said, unexpected expenses, as well as commissions not being consistent and my own output consistency.
There are a few drawbacks to staying at work though. First off, I was instructed (politely forced) to schedule all of my classes on any other day of the week besides Friday. That hasn't been a problem yet, but if a complication arises, my education wins.
Furthermore, work sucks, and making $40 bucks in 5 hours without wearing any pants is starting to sound a lot better than opening boxes. xD
Real talk, I'm just bullshitting. I'm probably going to get back on board with my commissions, and if it becomes more profitable than my current job, then yippee! Only time will tell.
Need to figure out how to set it up properly, though, and the internet connection needed to stream things might not be doable.
It'd be damn simple. Too bad I did't jump on this in 2006/7 when I had a chance; I was convinced at the time that streaming was a fad :v
The difficulty would be the streaming. The most expensive part would be the monitor and mountings...
I don't have the table room at FC because the fucker in charge of that is a fucking moron (I was #1 on the waiting list. I said "Sure gimme a half table while I wait for a full table." He then passed me over for full tables because "There were people after you who only wanted full". I am a little upset.), but Califur... Califur would be the next con I go for at this. *ponderponderponder*
Someone's gonna do it one of these days. xP
