Furry or r34 Smut animations by donation, any interest?
Hello everyone!
I have two weeks of no work coming during our Xmas shutdown, and thought I would use this dead time to try out and test the waters to gauge interest in an idea that has been brewing in my head for a while.
That is to do animations on a donation basis, when the donations reach a specific point I will complete the project
What this means is l'll be able to put out a lot more stuff here because I'd be able to justify spending more time on it, and if this first small step is successful perhaps I could take on a larger project next, hire a team do a full length episodic kind of thing, it would be a full fledged tiny special interest animation studio! :)
I'm thinking for a first tester project I would take two weeks to finish this Gargoyles WIP https://www.furaffinity.net/view/6904984/ though realistically a definite timeline is hard to guarantee,
first thought for fundraising goal is $1800 as that is roughly 2 weeks wages for a animator, if it exceeds that goal Ill add extras, like perhaps Lex in there somewhere!
So if enough people express interest here, Ill go to the bank and see how to set this sort of thing up!
PS. Still working on the TMNT project, in case anyone thought that was abandoned :)
TLDR
*Rule 34 smut animation by donation
*$1800 goal
*extra character if goal exceeded
*possibility of future full scale productions

however if this little experiment works out, Ill go for a bigger budget, get a team set up and try to make the next one a full 11 minute short.
Like Hughie522 said - if everyone one of your watchers donated 14 cents then this project would be funded. I don't think people would have an issue with that.
And like I told Osmosis - if we each donated a dollar then more than that project would have funding. You'd have enough for several. Even if half of us only donated a dollar then you could work it and maybe another animation or two. And most people don't feel bad about donating a SINGLE dollar to a project.
I say you start there or at 50 cents a person (or more if they feel so inclined). You have many people who love your work so it could be worked out. Think of this -
Even though you have 13000 or so watchers some of these people are no longer around or are just totally silent most of the time. We'll say they're not active. Your favers, the people who actively fave your work consistently...lets find an average based on your last 3 images (foregoing the Robin Hood WIP), since they'd be the most recent barometer.
That's 1183, 657, and 608 (you've been getting more faves as time goes on)
The average is - 816
Of course, your submission gets MANY more views than it does faves. Still it would mean that to fund this project comfortably we'd each need to give 2.50 in order to fund this project. If we give 5 dollars then we'd be funding 2 of your projects. See what I mean? You can ask for the least, and if they want to give you more that's fine. But some people like more...instruction in what they should or shouldn't do. Otherwise they assume you want a much larger number.
That said, thus far it seems that you're pretty blessed. Most people that have responded have said that they want to help you out however they can.
And pitches are hard. I think for you you should rely on your strengths. Once you have a place for people to donate to (with a link and everything set up) - make a poster about this. Nothing flash. Just something that's...you. People are more likely to click on an image than a journal entry unless they REALLY like they artist.
A poster for this/these project(s) is an affective marketing strategy because it means - we can fave it. That means when someone is looking through our faves they'll see your poster. So it work as a signal boost.
On the poster you just state what needs to be said, the basics "I want to fund animation projects", the goal, let them know that you need people to donate XXX amount but you'd be grateful if they can donate more - and any bits of information beyond that can be placed in the author's comments section.
I think that's the most effective thing you can do here on FA. If you make the poster you can also place it on Tumblr which is a great spot for reblogging (and you can have the poster image linked to the FA post, this journal, or the fundraising medium you're using).
The good thing is that we all want you to succeed in this because we believe in you, so you have things working in your favor ^_^
Maybe Ill try it again later with some of your ideas, a proper nice polished pitch with clear information like that, might have better luck.
You could always try a kickstarter or fundanything though I don't know how their view on adult material.
Some pornographic projects have been allowed on Kickstarter, but only under the understanding that the pornographic material isn't the focus. For example, although Coming Out On Top (a gay dating sim) has explicit sex scenes in the game, the main focus is trying to provide a quality storyline that gay people can relate to. There have also been other pornographic projects that pass on the basis of being "erotica", which again basically translates to "porn with a really good story" (and I do remember one specific project also tackling diverse representation in erotica).
In short, Kickstarter doesn't allow anything pornographic unless it's either tackling some sort of issue or simply a secondary part of the plot.
On top of that, there's also the potential copyright issues behind launching a Kickstarter fund for a porn animation based off a Disney cartoon. :P
He could try OffBeatr, which is a kickstarter exclusively for pornographic projects. There are already a couple of projects on there based off copyrighted works, including Star Wars and MLP, so there shouldn't be any issue funding a Gargoyles porn animation on there (just as long as the word PARODY is plastered everywhere in all caps).
So ideally it wouldnt be through anything like paypal, it would be some kind of direct online payment thing.
then the next step is to find out if I can get away with parody or if Disney would sue the hell out of me.
On a side note is the TMNT animation still set to be finished some time next year?
Different regions I guess hehe.
I look forward to reaping the benefits of that. I'd definitely be interested in donating!
I think you need to put some amount of trust in the community and go for something like that if it's a project you really want to do. I find just asking people "would you buy/donate if I did so and so" doesn't render accurate results as to how much you could potentially make.
In any case, this journal wasn't really the pitch this was just me trying to figure out if its even worth bothering with, If more than a half dozen people had expressed interest here, then I would have gone ahead and put work into setting up a webpage and proper pitch for the whole thing.
