I had no idea how bad that typhoon really was. They needed help yesterday!

Being a hurricane nut, I thought I knew a lot about such storms but I learned quite a bit while looking this one up and its contrasts to other storms. I had a hard time figuring out what the actual stats on this one was though.
The site you linked doesn't have all that impressive stats on it but other sites show much more impressive figures. Plus I learned landfalling "category 5" storms are rare for the Typhoon cradle of the world.
Well, I wish them the best.
Even before it hit, it was mentioned on NPR that a violent typhoon was brewing in the Pacific. That's why I was so surprised because I had thought that there was some warning that it was coming (atleast enough warning that perhaps aid organizations should have been on stand-by to assist immediately).....I guess I was expecting a better outcome like the one in India recently......they had a mandatory evacuation there and it saved a bunch of people.
But I guess that's only an option if you have high ground and strong enough buildings to withstand the winds...and enough time to get everyone to drop everything and run (something like nine million people felt Haiyan's impact)
Just came across this on Youtube.....very insightful as to what it was like a few days before landfall.....hope this guy is okay.

I actually did not notice the video there so I watched it. It looks all too familiar to videos I've seen. It's... a signature to cyclones, whether it be Australia, Mexico, US, China and so on.
