Overall the answer is no. Allergies are not based on the legalities of a drug.

Lets say aspirin was illegal. Then a kitsune would automatically be allergic to aspirin?

I suppose it would depend on other factors, like the type of drug, how it was made, and if any residual emotions are left on it that might affect them.

What if this is true? A kitsune gets a prescription to marijuana for medial purposes in California where it is legal and then moves to a location where it isn't. Or perhaps she inhales while overseas in Denmark? Is the kitsune going to have the allergic reaction?

I was thinking more the emotional intent behind the drug making. Is it being made by well-meaning people, or is this a meth lab by some really evil criminals? And if it's a synthesized drug, then it's not natural, and too much "urban life" might be hazardous for a fox spirit.

I just get this idea of a character of mine being blown out of a building with "evidence" in a drug bust, and stands up like it was nothing... but the drugs get under his fur and he starts screaming and getting chemical burns. Thankfully, a little mountain spring water clears it right up, though he'll be in pain for a while.

Well if their on a drug bust I'd say their already pretty deep into 'urban life' so I'd say its something else that would create such a pronounced reaction.

If its the intent of the maker that's a bit iffy as well. Opium and marijuana are both completely natural with little to no preparation so there isn't really a 'maker' but maybe the maker of a drug thinks their really doing a good and beneficial thing, lots of positive hippy vibes and the like. Then the drug wouldn't cause the reaction?

Either way I think if its a mechanic you'd like to play with I'd be very clear on how you introduce it as its something that defies scientific reality you'll really need to convey the mechanics of how and why it works.

I'm all for unique plot ideas and the like so I'd love to see it work.

Kitsunes aren't really a scientific concept to begin with. =P Character for an old idea of mine. Will have to refine it someday and see what I can make of it. Definitely will have to pin down what his kind are like and how they work, strengths and weaknesses included.
