So I'm getting a new laptop

Hello FurAffinity,
So my laptop is kaput. Cut down in its not-at-all-prime at the tender-but-obsolete age of 2 and a half. The hard drive was bad and the overheating was causing more problems. The shop I took it to said the cost to repair it was creeping dangerously close to the cost of a new laptop. They rescued all the data, which is what was important anyway, and sold me an external hard drive, which is never a bad thing to have. Viking funeral to follow. In lieu of flowers, please send sacrificial horses.
In the meantime I'm hogging my parents' desktop. I miss my laptop. I need a new one and I need it soon, before Thanksgiving vacation. I'll be shopping this weekend. Before I dive into the depths of Consumer Reports, do you fine furried folk have any advice? Brands to recommend? Brands to avoid? And don't say Mac; I'm a Windows guy because I'm boring like that.
Also, I've been in a bad mood lately. Work sucks, but you don't want to hear about it. I need a vacation, and a new laptop.

Which you'd most likely be using anyway. Touch on a non tablet is a stupid gimmick. Desktop Windows widgets aren't meant to be fat-fingered, you normally sit far enough that you can't ergonomically reach the screen, and holding up your hand to constantly poke the screen is very tiring. And it gets fingerprints all over it... So yeah...
