Should I Quit?
Some people seemed to miss the point of my previous journal. It was about me venting my feelings, not me asking for tips on how to improve my art. I appreciate the thought and effort, but it wasn't what I wanted.
What many seem to forget is that I’ve been at this furry art thing for many, MANY years at this stage. I have tried lots of things to improve during that time. In fact, most of the tips offered up are things I’ve already tried. The current level my art is at is the level I’ve arrived at after years and years of trying and working at it. If I’m not very good after all that, then I feel the chances are I never will be.
Which brings us to the thought running around my head. Should I quit? Is it time to just accept that I’m a no talent loser going nowhere fast and stop wasting my time on my so-called ‘art’? I really don’t know right now…

FA+

but you might want to change your "subjects and endings"
i am sorry but why always the bad guys winning? hypnosys is "shakable" in some situations.
you might want to see that not only the bad guys get a "shot at the ass" maybe
but quit?
get real and keep on fighting... i got a lot more shit going on than you and i just DON'T CARE about quitting to tell it all ...
but always the "ultimate bad guy" that got no adversaries or wounds or struggle?
that was nagging in my mind since a few months and wasn't really daring to bother you with you it
CK... you art is splendid but the sotry may need some work but all in all you are GREAT!!!... screw those haters, haters gonna hate... don't look down on yourself! Wipe those tears, chin up and put a smile on it. Do what you do, improve if you have to, 'cause your REAL fans, us, are here to shower you with our support! ^__^ Remember CK, when you joined the fandom you were never alone from the beginning to now.
am far from "mr popufur" not wanting to get "low" from what they say...
nothing popular about me sigh...
i just barely make through and a lot than him...
you just added your point of view and i explained a bit more of mine hehe
Bear vs Badger is awesome too [Just a Wrestling comic] offered CK £100 to draw me one like it ages ago [Which again is proof if hes so sucky why am I prepared to commision him that much and others are lined up to do the same]
dont be like that, your art is good, and you have wonderful ideas, sure you may not be the best artist who ever lived, but so what? Your art is good, it makes people happy, and you should be proud to have so many fans of your art!
Sure, I agree with Karmakat that it can be depressing to always have the bad guys win, but I don't think any of your comics are meant to be taken super seriously anyway, so it doesn't tend to bother me. Heck, I usually hate nonconsent, but the way you usually do it makes it sexy for all the uncanny reasons I enjoy it without the guilt of "omigosh these guys are in agony and suffering a lot just for a cheap thrill." Usually it seems like people like nonconsensual stuff for the sheer reason that they get off to having power over others and seeing them in agony... essentially rape fantasies, but you don't do that for the most part.
You have plenty of talent, too, and you also have an extremely identifiable style that tons of people will recognize. I remember seeing one of your pictures in a sketchbook at a convention, that was pretty cool, and I immediately knew who drew it. :D
Don't give up! Some people will be assholes and somehow think that it's okay to criticize and criticize when you're feeling down. I've also had many "friends" who said that I was somehow not being a good friend anymore simply because I was depressed for longer than a couple days. Ignore them, concentrate on the people who truly support you, look at your many accomplishments, and keep moving forward. :D
(and now I need to take some of my own advice...)
I would really hate to see you go :(
I've taken up video editing and reviews, im bad at it, i get 100 views tops and i get next to no feedback. I still do it because i thoroughly enjoy the experience and i know at least one of those 100 people will enjoy the end result. I enjoy looking at your art from time to time, so i hope at the very least that helps you.
Hell. No.
What BS is this, you're certainly not a no-talent loser!
Big deal.. you have a different art style... that makes your art UNIQUE in my opinion...
Dont you EVER quit!!! .....And all those assholed telling you that your art sucks can just fuck right off!!!
should you quit? straight answer: no, in my opinion if you were to quit then FA and all of our extended family would have lost a great brother and creator, (plus i never see enough furs from the south west/east on here)
to anyone who would put you down just remember that they can go and do whatever they do because they don't have imaginations if they put down upon wonderful art.
oh... and I'm one of the 3000... just in case ya didn't know. XD
What I will say is that a lot of people, myself included, don't see your art as bad and never did. You have a fanbase of people who love your work and I know that a lot of people-again, myself included-aspire to be as good as you are at drawing.
If you feel you've fallen into a rut, then that's NOT a reason to quit. That's a reason to redouble your efforts and try out more things. Even if you don't improve the way you feel you want to, that's STILL better than just giving up all together.
If you just give up, you'll be hurting a lot of people, the worst of which will be yourself. The only moment in which you're a no-talent looser going nowhere is the moment in which you quit everything because you don't think you're good enough. That goes for a lot of things in life, actually...
If you decide to yourself that you want to quit then do it, technically no one should have the right to stop you, but in my personal opinion you just need to think about it more.
I'm not sure whoever told you that you are a no-talent loser, its pure fact and reason that you are a better artist than many. Think of all those in the world who aren't doing art at all, compared to that even a low-grade art piece (not that your art is that at all) would be considered talent in some respect.
With your style...its like when a style just 'stick's and doesn't appear to improve more. That can be a good thing if you want consistency, but to get better you may have to try something very different.
Anyway, this has all been my personal opinion, do what you feel best for yourself.
I know I'm not an artist so I don't know about the frustration and problems of worrying about art quality, I do hope that you'll find peace with it someday, should you decide to continue with it. While your not the greatest in the world, I do think your artwork is unique, you have a neat interest with fantasy and sci-fi, and your comics and stories are fun to read.
I am sorry your feeling this way and I think I can't understand a bit on how what it must be like. I do hope you feel better someday. -Matt
I really like your art and think its well done. Your various comics are well done and totally worth it.
I have been hard on myself about my work too, but why? WE all improve at different times, but because it takes long to "improve" does not mean one should quit. Keep moving forward and keep positive and I know that is easier said than done, but it can be done. You will see, but do not quit about all things because that means you want to give up and I don't feel that you really want to.
*Offers you a beer.*
biggest fan of your comics, but I see the efford and time you put into your work. You will leave a bigger void than you think
if you quit!
I gunna be honest. Don't quit drawing. You comics have quit the interesting (porn) plot :P (though i have yet to check out the others)
Though the only thing is that your art needs improvement. In now way did i mean to insult you and i do apologize if i did. I had simply wanted to give advice to an artist that has alot of potential to be great. I had given you those artists for various reasons do to what they excell in (Anatomy, muscles,) really thats your biggest problem is anatomy. it looks really off on the muzzles and heads. and the muscles, well they look kinda ballony. Overall the character design is great and the coloring is pretty good to.
Basically, dont give up on art Cyber. you got alot of potential to be a great artist Cyber. don't give up on that
improve it no1 seems to understand his pain i know exactly how he feels even he knows where his mistakes are criticism wouldnt help if ppl already know what they need improving also he said he kept trying his whole life that could hurt someone badly for being mean to them since they actually are trying but criticism could be ok if someone atleast show how to improve not tell it but show whats wrong
But it is your call but take in consideration of the fans and followers that sorta became your extended family like your brothers and/or sisters don't quit please you will leave a gaping void in your fans/siblings.
I don't presume to know you but you seem to be a creative person that likes to share his ideas.
Getting discouraged is something that happens, but i cant see you giving up entirely you will always have your ideas and put them down to share in one way or another. whether you share them with everyone or not.
Wishing you the best.
Theres the saying "Try and please everyone and you please no one", so like others have said, do what you like, or you get enjoyment out of if others like it - Great!!, if you get jealous haters that don't... FUCK EM, rise above it, why are they even looking or bothering to comment negativly if they don't like it [Trolling ?]
Lets just say you do "Quit" I bet if you throw yourself into EG online gaming you'll get the same feelings of fultitity or "Oh wahhh, I'm not "Improving" so and so/everyones BETTER than me etc" and want to quit that too and be on this same road
Really REALLY think you should see a Doctor about Depression [Said that before too] you don't want to risk losing your Mate because of that now do you ? - Think about it http://positivemed.com/2013/07/02/1.....ession-in-men/
You have a style, you create work in said style, people come here because they want to look at art that contains that style. Why should you quit? Somehow people keep coming back, continue to follow you - if they have decided that they wish to view a different style of art then there are lots of alternatives.
You are you, and you should be proud to be you.
As for a style change , No idea . For improving your art .. I'd say just try new things , new approaches , Sketch an apply . But don't quit at it . You do have talent , but I think you just need to rediscover how to hone in on it .
your art, has its own style. it works for you and i am assuming you enjoy doing it your way.
you feel like you hit the ceiling of your talent levels, and you get that sinking feeling that that ceiling is impossible to surpass witch it may be. but everyone is different
simply the only reason that i think that you SHOULD want to quit is if the drive to draw get your ideas down onto digital paper wanes, or it just doesn't interest you anymore, quitting for the reason you hit the drawing detail ceiling well "you wont learn anything from quitting"
i started watching you because of your drawing as they are now, not as what they COULD be. if i wanted more "realistic" pictures i would watch someone else i watch you for the cantoony/comicy pictures not for intricately detailed ball hairs (and i'm not going to lie and not say that WHAT you draw doesn't interest me)
you may have hit the ceiling, but instead of looking up, look to the sides, you found you niche, now you can expand. try different situations to put your characters in, be it weird like being teabagged without pants over the face, or be is straight, one of your characters drivng a car talking to himself, or even try to make a comic where there are no "sex slaves" just to tell a story. think not "what i can improve" think of "what can i now do with these skills".
MAKE GOOD ART
.....whatever that mean to you
Cyberklaw, I'm not going to judge on whether you're a "good artist" or not because it depends on what you think it takes to be a good artist. But let me put it to you this way. Why do you do art? Do you draw because you enjoy drawing - the process, the feeling of a drawing implement in your hand, the planning and execution of a page - or do you do it because you're looking for validation from others? Because here's a simple fact: if your reason for doing art is because you're looking for validation, you will fail. Despite the fact that there are people here drooling in defense of your art, you're never going to find the validation you're looking for. For everyone who defends you on an FA journal, there will always be people tearing you to shreds on U18 and Pawsru and whatever other troll-infested image boards you can think of. That's simply how life and the internet works.
Several people have said that "your style is your own; don't try to compare it to others." They could not be more wrong. You CAN and SHOULD be comparing your style to others. That doesn't mean you copy them, but you can learn from them. If people have suggested that you improve your anatomy skills, don't just read about anatomy - watch a Livestream of an artist you respect. Or study tutorials. The bottom line is that you have to be willing to step OUT of your "comfort zone". As the saying goes, "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten." A lot of people get upset - and, as you are doing here, take it personally - when their art is criticized. Now there is fair criticism and unfair criticism. But art has fundamentals and conventions just like any other field of study, and it's too easy to fall into the trap of saying "It's my style, and if you don't like it get over it." The word "style" has come to be dreadfully perverted by artists who use "it's my style" as an excuse to avoid making changes that would improve their art.
And you know what, your art needs improvement. Does that mean you're a "no talent loser"? Of course not. My art needs improvement. Wolfy-Nail's art needs improvement. Meesh's art needs improvement. An artist who thinks he can't improve - or who thinks he doesn't need to improve - is very naive. And improving means that you have to do something different from what you've done in the past. Sometimes it's a little different - sometimes it's completely changing the way you do art. Only you can decide what you're willing to do. It's okay to have a cartoon-like style. But even cartoon anatomy should have realistic body proportions - or unrealistic proportions that are intentionally emphasized (for instance, manga-style characters with their impossibly-pointed chins and physics-defying hair). Now, I didn't come here to tell you everything that's wrong with your art - but make no mistake: despite what the fanboys are saying, there are things wrong with your art, as with every other artist. In every drawing you do, you should aim for perfection but settle for improvement. But - and here's the important point - every drawing you create should be better than the last. Because if you don't improve, you stagnate and fall into a rut.
The reason I came here was to help you find an answer to your question of whether you should quit or not. That depends on whether creating art is enjoyable for you or not. If the "haters" make it impossible for you to enjoy doing art, then just draw for yourself and find a venue other than the one you use currently, or just keep your art private. Yeah, there'd be fans who'd miss seeing your art, but if you draw because you like to draw, that's a worthy exchange for your personal fulfillment as an artist. If, on the other hand, you can still enjoy the public art scene in spite of the people who dislike your art (and you will always have people who dislike your art, because art is subjective by nature), then you should continue. But make the decision for yourself. If you depend on journals like this, then you'll go around in a great big circle and be right back where you started two weeks/months/years from now.
Sorry for such a long post, but you seem like a decent guy, and I wanted to give my advice in hopes that it will help you make the decision that makes you happiest.
