Game demo project: Shock Dragoon's Mission

In our last semester of computer science course, they offer a very interesting subject in the course: Game Design and Development :D
I've been planning to create a new and free MegaMan X game, a fan-made game using 16-bit graphics, animation, sounds and sprites. That's what I've always dreamed of making that old Capcom game. However, it will not be easy because it requires skills in making of gameplay, concept, story (I already have made one http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10342100 XD), plot, controls, and player's expectation. On the start, I should work on pixelart and animation. Example, I've created Shock Dragoon's idle stance (My new but temporary avatar )
There are problems in working on old-school games (It should be an installed PC game, not a ROM for emulator...they don't have that lesson. X3). First is sprite characters. It takes a long time for a single pixel artist to complete the Maverick enemies, bosses, sub-bosses, and final boss. Another thing is the obstacles such as explosions, debrises, weapons and special techniques.
Eight bosses and two final bosses are mentioned in the profile page (PART 1 only)
Second is the background, it also takes much time to add foreground and background.
Third is the BGM. The music should be original to this new game, not take any original soundtrack from Capcom (copyright infringement). Since my brother, Paulo Javier B. Gener the musician and composer, is gone, i need someone within the school to make a 16-bit music with digi-techno, rave, and electronic genre. The voice-actor is either optional or required.
Fourth is the storywriting and dialogue. The game should have its interesting whenever it is important for gamers to know exactly how it flows toward the conflict.
Last is the program implementation, installation, and creation of executable game. Maybe I should work on Game Editor using my programming skills. It is an indie fan-made game with special thanks to Capcom for inspiration and few sprite-borrowing...heh XP
Since I said it really takes few years to get it done through programming, designing and beta-testing, I only work on the intro stage. DX
Concept of main character will be: Shock Dragoon has the combination of X and Zero's role. He uses acquired weapons and Zero's techniques separately. There are navigation keys and seven more keys: weapon-attack button, technique-attack button, jump, dash, change weapon left and right, and giga attack.
Limitations are: Shock cannot chargeweapons because of technique included.
Laserblade should be added as Shock's companion. The game will include switch-roles during the gameplay. Laserblade uses a laser weapon to fire in any of 8 directions (He can charge it to become thicker and more powerful). He also uses a slashing technique (charging it causes to powerfully rotate himself with self-defense wing blades) He can fly like Gradius. The player can fly anywhere with navigation keys, and have three more keys: laser-attack button, slash-attack button, and giga attack.
Limitations are: he can't receive weapons and techniques.
When the game is completed, it will unlock Slash Velociraptor (Shock's elder brother), thus switching the protagonist and antagonist role.

My advice is that you made all the game planning on paper, since a single change in the UI can end in a small hell development (like happens with my current game).
Like a megaman game, not megaman X!
Is more simple, has less thing. Maybe is at least a good way to pratice before go to the real deal
(When its finished I definately want to try it)
