Hah, all of them were just creepy as fuck. Wonder whatever happened to that artist. I'm about to be doing some character design on a horror game project and he/she is going to be a big inspiration.

I have the trilogy of those books on my bookshelf. Had to go out and buy them a while back due to remembering how awesome they were back in school. Let's hope they pick some of the really good ones.

I was like 8 years old when i read them. I'd be curious to see how they hold up today. The illustration are 100% as unsettling as i remember.

The stories aren't as eerie today, but a few still stand out and give a nice creep factor. The illustrations are still creepy as hell.

It's a shame they replaced the illustrations with more cartoony ones in the recent reprints.

They look nice, almost Disney-esuqe, but they're not very...scary.

Well considering they sold these to 5th graders, i'm almost not surprised. The illustrations scared the living shit out of me when i was a kid.

I don't believe I ever read these, though I do remember checking a book out of the school library one time that had stories that freaked me out enough to stop reading it. One was about this girl who had this night gown with a fuzzy collar, and they could hear something banging around on the first floor...she went to inspect, and the other girl stayed in the room...and hear someone come back up, reached out and found the fuzzy collar...but the girl had no head. o.o Dunno why that freaked me out back then, but it sure did.

..and I dunno, Saw was a pretty solid series throughout the full 7 movie run. Certainly did better than some of the other long-running series.

Well, I respectfully disagree. :3 They're certainly gorier films than the first, but it's not like the first shied away from it, either.

But hey, they're opinions. :3 I personally hate Friday the 13th Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan, but I'm sure someone out there enjoys it.

On one hand I am SERIOUSLY excited as hell about this! I personally love the first 3 Saw movies, and these were my favorite books to check out of the library.

On the other hand, I'm also terrified that they'll go the hipster route and make this movie super tongue in cheek "OMG SO QUIRKY AND SELF-AWARE" like Scream, or Cabin in the Woods, or the abortion known as You're Next *shudders*

I actually thought some of the scream movies were great. While they were obviously extremely tongue in cheek and self aware, some of them were excellent slasher flicks in their own right.

This could either be awesome or a train wreck. I'm not seeing a lot of middle ground here. In my opinion, I think it would be awesome if they make it an anthology film, similar to the Phobia series. Just get some of the top horror movie directors to direct a different story from the books. Unfortunately, the premise in that link would make an anthology difficult to do.

Iirc they indicated it's going to be vignettes. I've seen like maybe one really good vignette horror flick and i can't even remember what it is.

I'm a tough customer when it comes to horror, theres almost never a middle ground with me, it's generally either really good to great or just terrible. But then again, i'm not just into horror imagery or subject matter, i only like movies that are "scary" movies. I'm rarely scared by movies but they gotta do a good job of trying for me to like it at all, or at least be incredibly unsettling.
