you know your popular when you think lots of people trying to make small talk are annoying, yet you still talk almost 100% of the time whit a few select people. thats ussualy my observations of 98% of those I consider popular

well popularity is not something you can get yourself. Your attitude can influence it (Which is what I pointed out) but it is the opinions of others that create said popularity. For instance, I judge popularity on how busy a person is on FA, if they have lots of watchers, have a decent gallery and have been on FA for some time. That is how I define popularity. But I think the Omegey is popular ^^

Usually those in the furry community are popular whether it's porn, great talent at something (like dance, art, writing, and music), etc. There's also a fact where those may find you "not popular enough" in their opinion. Like, for example, if you want a commission, a request, or whatever FROM a popufur and/or BY the popufur, you have to be like as popular like them in order to get something you wanted. Unfortunately, even if you are popular, you still might not be at their level.

Nonetheless, with popularity comes where you push your old friends aside. Those that helped you, supported you, and assist you from time to time in the furry community. It's good to make new friends, but its bad to forget and throw away those who stuck by you. Plus, you may not know who you're REAL true friends were when it comes to popularity.

It's good to be popular, but then there are some consequences that a popufur could receive. In my opinion, I'd say it's good to become a popular person (like being recognized, having lots of friends, girls, fame and such), but it's better if you just be yourself and stick with real friends. And I had to admit, that is a good a question. However, I think there might be a few people who can that. Whether they're popufurs or not.

When you get so many notes, comments, FaceBook/Twitter followers, and emails that you consider outsourcing your social networking to someone else....that's when you're popular.

Hmm...see this is a difficult question. Not only is this a made-up world online in a sense, it has real-life implications, like this topic of popularity. And it's different for every person.

In the imaginary sense, yes I could say the use of your character defines it as popular. Maybe not even the use of the character in any art or story, but just mention of it elsewhere also signifies popularity.

In reality, sure you could measure it by how many watchers you have or how many views your pages have, even how many people respond to your journals like this. That seems to be the most basic way of defining popularity. But it's something deeper for all of us, I think popularity boils down to those who care about you. It doesn't matter if your character is famous or infamous for something, it appeals to a certain subset of the community, or you are just charitable or RP with everybody around. You can be as popular as your mind sees fit, but only those who care about you really matters.

Like take me for instance, I came on here a bit more than a year ago today, and I've amassed over 100 followers. I thought they all cared about me for some reason, and I would ask 'Why they watched me?' and all there reasons seemed valid. I thought we could cultivate remarkable relationships together. You know how many of them actually keep in touch with me. Less than 10%. Recall that last statement in the last paragraph about, 'how many people respond to your journals' That is actually a good indicator of seeing who cares. Sadly, not everyone wants to read...AND respond to someone.

Relationships are important, popularity here skews them in a horribly wrong direction most times. Some want to be as famous as others, others just feel like they are automatically beneath others because they don't have the same clout as someone else. We all have some capacity for greatness.

So yeah, popularity, a difficult subject indeed to discuss, but it's different for everyone and can be separated from those people who do truly give you joy and happiness around here,
