Unpopular Opinion: Refsheets - Who needs 'em?

So I know I'll probably get some controversy on this, but here's what I think. Do you really need a refsheet? I had a friend say the same thing about a month ago. He said you don't really need one. A refsheet is simply a reference for the artist. Well I see people with lots of "references". I also asked him, wouldn't you want to let them know what they officially look like? He said he likes to give them some artistic freedom. Nothing wrong there ^^ (That would explain why his mane wasn't always black hehe)
Anyway... I see people with many pictures that they can use as references or refsheets. Many artists don't even need them. My first pieces of art just came from text description. As much as I like the artists, I really wouldn't want to spend $100 on a refsheet. I wouldn't be able to afford that anyway ^^"

And your last pic looks like your look is finalized, no? Just add a few words and there you go ^^ Custom ref.
The number of times I've specifically told people through text refs that my burd character is female but has -no- breasts, only to see that they have gone ahead and added them. It's gotten to the point where I've just given up and given the character some small breasts to stop people from improvising double-Ds and GIANT brass nipples from nowhere.
