Another Soyuzmultfilm Russian animated featurette. While not a Christmas story per se, this tale does seem to take place from late fall to early spring:
Sadly, YouTube took down the English-subtitled version, for while much of the plot is self-explanatory, it's always more fun to know just exactly what all the characters are saying (or singing, as the case may be).

That scene always reminds me of a Sunday Peanuts strip where Snoopy befriends a snowman, though with trepidation that he knows it will eventually melt and he'll be left heartbroken. When the inevitable happens ("AAUGH! *sob!*), the next panel shows a window with Linus and Charlie Brown in it.
Linus: Poor Snoopy, he's lost another friend. It's too bad he's so sensitive.
Charlie Brown: Uh-huh, but I notice he wasn't too sensitive to eat the carrot...

So this was sort of like the story of the little red hen, but with more serious consequences. Nice to see cats as something other than mouse-killing villains, isn't it?
