So, yea... me and bandwagons, lately... go figure...
I've had my share of 'discussions' about FA's ThanksGiving Banner... most of which ended in someone just stomping off and going drama-queen on me...
So, instead of just laying my two-cents here, as I usually do, I'll just 'quote' a few journals that reflect my opinion about this whole issue.

I know I'll be risking quite a lot with 'echoing' these snippets of wisdom in my own journal, but I figure my popularity in FA isn't all that good to begin with, so I might as well do it anyway.
Plus, any flames I might get from anyone who's offended by it, I'll most DEFINITELY be able to fend off.
Just let it be known that I wholeheartedly agree with the opinions mirrored above, and that these gentlemen have been given a few more cookie bonus points in my book.

The internet as a whole is fucking retarded. I honestly believe the average FA user is better than most netizens, as the level of drama around here is surprisingly low (despite what we may have witnesses on Thanksgiving).
Its the kind of stuff that makes us want to rule the world and pass on a law that dictates the punishment for blatant stupidity is being slowly dipped into a pool of acid, hanging by one's testes (or clit, whichever may be the case) and whatever remains should be wrapped in tin foil and put into an very powerful microwave on the maximum setting. (I think we all know what happens then)
The fact that I 'still' hang around on FA is proof enough that, as you, I find that the majority of the users here 'still' have a bigger IQ than an amorphous pea, and I can still find a few gems of intelligence here and there.

It was just magnified because I'm getting some eyes on me, I don't know how many other journals were ignored that basically said the same shit that I did, and they inspired me to step up. It's like, what's the big deal anyways, the popularity shit? If it's coming from people that argue over a fucking harmless picture, it's of less worth to me than genuine attention to my being, or whatever. I'm not intrigued with popularity, and I'll use it as a tool to get my point across, like it's meant to be used. And I'm feeling that I was saying something good, though malicious, in structure, so I did the journal.

But this really showed a side of the fandom I almost never wanted to see. Ever.
I dunno, I mean, I really like the Fandom, and I found a lot through it. But this was sort of saddening, and makes me want to be a little more choice with interaction and dealing with the general population. I've heard so much shit about "Elitist big-name artists" and so on, and talking with some people at MFF last week, it really boils down to the idiocy and negativity that's been increasingly permeating the Fandom that's driving people further away personally. In such a massive social correlation, this is the opposite of what is good.
All of the horror stories about big-headed artists that don't interact with the general population, give answers, ways to showing them how to increase their fanbase, whatever shit that they want, it's like, I figured, since I'm getting somewhere, somewhat noticed, I could show that there are people that are considered popular that are still the same. But it's so fucking hard, when I have people attacking my words, just for being popular! It's like, I can't fucking win, and I was seriously trying to be this fucking white knight for the Fandom!
I'm just like, I'm not gonna leave or whatever, but I've lost so much fucking faith right now.
Sometimes you just have to settle for being the 'Dark Knight'...

Being ThanksGiving, they 'should' really be grateful, not only for that, but that the admins who are so 'EEEEEVAL' and perpetuate those 'nasty nasty fat fur fetixes', are also the ones who actually keep this site up.
They've been doing one HELL of a good job, and somehow, in my humble opinion, I doubt that simple fact is acknowledged often enough.
People have a right to be offended/disturbed by something. Over the top drama over it is another story though and I'd agree that's a tad ridiculous.
As far as the whole "leaving the fandom" shenanigans as Dragoneer posted that's typical Internet drama and not something specific to the fandom.

That said sometimes drama results from something real, but blown out of proportion. I didn't like the santa getting punched thing from ages ago but I didn't whine like crazy about it or anything, for example.
...if you ask me, I find the whole fat fur fetish thing disgusting, myself...
And I probably didn't really like the thing popping up on the banner, either. But 'I', as so many other people, and contrary to other people out on this site, took it as a "tongue-in-cheek joke", like Fen said in his journal. I just think the whole drama that's been going on because of a banner that's been up there for a 'single' day, is really unnecessary.
