How Much Would You Pay for a Commission by Me?

As you know, I have a very strange system for commissions. One of haggling rather than set prices. I would like some more business, but I think that strange uncertainty scares away a lot of potential commissioners so I would like to ask you guys for advice.
How much would you say is a fair price for a commission by me?
How much would you say is a fair price for a commission by me?
How long does it take you to complete the stages? EG: Rough Sketch, Full Sketch, Color, Shading, etc.
I've taken a look at a few other commission-guides, it could be best to start cheapish for now, and once you're the toast of the internet then we can mail you a gold ingot per sketch. :P
Simple Sketch = $5
Black Lines = $10
Flat Colored = $15
Full Shaded = $20
Plus a $5 charge for every "extra character" on Sketch, Lines and Flat commissions, and $10 "extra character" charge on Full Shaded.
Bear in mind I'm from the UK, so I'm not too certain how your US dollars work...
