Macs are very good. No viri or spyware, plus better bundled software and fewer hardware issues.
Windows is better for gaming, but I have a PS3 for that, so why waste money on PC games?
A Mac will set you back about 700 GBP for a standard one. For a better one it can cost a grand.
Or, you can buy the OS and build yourself a Mac the same way you build a PC.
Great British Pounds.
It's roughly the same price as a top of the storebought line PC.
I wouldn't go for the Macbooks personally since they're more expensive and are less computer, but if you need the portability then go for it.
Hmm... yeah... then again... that's why... it's kinda more convenient to get a laptop lol
Since... is looking at that tablet PC with wacom touch screen...
The virus and spyware threat is kind of overblown, and actually there are viruses and worms for the Mac simply because MacOS is now based on BSD Unix and there are viruses and worms for that.
In fact, at the last Black Hat conference (a conference for hacking and security issues), there was a challenge where three computers, a MacBook Air, an HP Laptop running Vista and a Dell running Ubuntu were set up right out of the box. The first person to pwn them owned them.
The Mac went down in less than an HOUR. The Vista box survived for two days. No one hacked the Linux box, but it was also noted that almost no one tried. :)
In any case, if you're really concerned, you install Avast and Windows Defender and you're essentially immune.
As for bundled software, there's an equivalent for almost everything bundled with the Mac in Vista with two exceptions: Garage Band and iWeb. Macs have fewer hardware issues *when you stick to just the Mac*. As soon as you start adding third party hardware, you're in exactly the same situation as you are with Windows. A Windows PC bought from a high quality maker (HP, Dell, Toshiba, etc) and that you aren't adding all sorts of crappy peripherals to, will be just as stable as your Mac.
On the other hand, with the PC at least you get the option to add unusual things to your computer. The range of software and hardware for the Mac is far, far smaller.
What it really comes down to is this: The Mac offers a smoother experience in general, and Mac apps tend to have a more polished, more user friendly design (although, often at the cost of being less powerful or configurable). Contrary to what a lot of Mac owners believe, the hardware INSIDE the Mac is no better or worse than a good quality PC, but the range of options and prices are far smaller. On the other hand, cheap PCs often really are poorly made (but not always - consider the Acer AspireOne - $350 netbook that's stunning).
But there are entire classes of devices Apple doesn't make: like tablet PCs, which, if you're an artist, is insanely good. Imagine drawing with your Wacom pen right on the screen. Apple doesn't have anything like that (although you can get a rebuilt MacBook from Axotron that kind of does this - badly and $1000 more expensively).
Case in point: The HP tx2z. It's a 12" tablet PC with a *multitouch* screen... that's something even Apple doesn't have on its laptops. It has touch, multitouch and wacom - for US$1200.
They're hilarious commercials, but all they are is a smear campaign against Windows/Microsoft. If Apple products were the end all, be all they'd advertise their own products... not dump millions and millions of dollars into shitting on Microsoft and doing everything they can do to make Microsoft look bad.
Yeah... it can be that... 0_o but then again... those are turely fun X3
And... not really... really HAVE to get a mac lol
Just gettting some opinions! Since I'm still leaning more toward the HP Pavilion tx2500z series
since they have wacom tablet drive build in... and at least 512 pressure levels (the clerk kinda told me 600 when asked at a store)
So guess that will be a better laptop to get... since I'm using a Compaq Presario now...
And they're working alright for me ^w^
But since this laptop is really old lol
So the performance is not really the best anymore X3
I've crashed tons of Macs. They're generally more stable than their PC counterparts, but still prone to all the exact same problems as a "PC". Each and every last problem. The commercials are very misleading, as they're more of a smear campaign than they are a Mac commercial. When it comes to security, Macs are better than PCs... but only due to the fact so few people use them. As Macs become more and more popular, there will be more and more viruses (there are tons out there already for them, too).
Macs are good for what they are, but incredibly underpowered and overpriced for what you get. Vista is incredibly secure, and despite all the flak it gets, it's not the horror most make it out to be. Vista coupled with a good antivirus (AVG) will be just as fine. Macs are pretty, and most of the extra money you pay for are the looks.
You can not upgrade most Mac, and those you can offer very little in the way of upgrades. Apple's take on upgrading a Mac is to "buy a new one". This makes Macs even MORE expensive over time since you can not gradually upgrade a Mac to keep it current.
I've used dozens of Macs as a professional animator/graphic designer, and did not like them. I much more enjoyed using a PC simple for the fact I could maximize windows. Most Mac applications don't have a proper "maximize" function at all.
My main PC is an older shuttle and it's not gutsy enough to run Media Center and handle real time decoding of MPEG2 from my Hauppague TV capture box. So, I decided to stick my Mac mini, which is core 2 duo, in its place. But it only has a gig of RAM and 80GB HD..
Now... opening the Mac mini is an exercise in surrealism all on its own (you need a putty knife or a thin cake spatula.. yes... you start your upgrade process at your local grocery or kitchenware shop). Then there's the memory. The average price for a gig of laptop memory now is around $29 up here. But can you use that in your Mac mini?
NOOOOOOO... it has to be 'special, magic, Mac specific' RAM.. that costs $50 a stick.
The cheap memory works perfectly in my Tosh laptop - and in my AspireOne.. but a Mac mini - God forbid I stick low cost memory in my precious little Mac.
But that's just it. You pay almost twice the actual value for "Mac" specific compatible upgrade parts, and they're no more better or reliable than other brands...
I used to really like Apple, but... I have an iPod, and I decided I wanted to switch to a Zune (as they're much nicer). However, all the videos and music I bought over iTunes I can't take anywhere. I'm stuck using iTunes (which is a piece of shit software -- they just NOW got folder browsing? WTF). I no longer want to use iTunes, but I don't have a choice. At all.
And that pisses me off.
But that's how Apple gains market dominance. Once you buy Apple you're stuck with it. You can't take your software, music, games, movies or anything to the competitor.
Hmm... so not really suggesting getting a Mac in the end eh?
Well... just think that I shall still stick to the HP Pavilion tx2500z series since that fits my budgets more @__@
And the performance for that tablet PC aren't bad either... or that's what I'm hoping for lol
I have a Toshiba M700-S7005V (ok - not the sexiest name... :) which is a Core2Duo 2.4GHz tablet PC and I draw on it all the time. Grisser has an HP tx2500 and he seems to like it. Still, I'd look at the tx2z.
Seriously though, there are pluses for the Mac and pluses for the PC and in the end, it has to be what you want because you're going to be the one who'll be using it. I guess what we're trying to say is that it's important to look past the hype and fud and look at the facts.
Figure out what you want to do with it - then find the best software to do that - then buy the computer that runs it best, regardless of what OS it runs.
Yup! After looking at the tx2z think that's still the best for me... and also nice price too!!! Just $1149.99 lol
But don't think it's released here in Asia as yet... (studying here at the moment...)
So... might have to wait for a while... maybe like Christmas!? Yay! lol
Don't think I had seen much of the Toshiba tablet pc here though...
Since tablet PC is still most common here with the HP
And there's also ACER and ASUS (duh~) Since they're the brands here in Taiwan X3

So that's why I kinda want to get a mac... but the thing is... Mac do cost more... right? 0_o
Hmm... well... Linux also have no virus or spyware lol
But umm... can't really do much with Linux at the moment though >.<
But yeah... guess there's just the pros and cons to things eh? XD
Or, you can buy the OS and build yourself a Mac the same way you build a PC.
Hmm~ well... just thinking of getting iBook pro... I guess X3
So guess that's why it is sooooo expensive then lol
By the way... 700GBP? X3

So kinda trying to save up now... and umm... doing commissions if I have the time lol
Yeah... but it aren't easy to just well... save up that amount to get a MacBook Pro X3

Beat that, Apple fans.
But also... guess just wondering how to get the programs for Mac lol
Like... Photoshop is a must!!! X3
But really... Windows can be a bit annoying at times though 0_o
Like... the blue screen of death =. =;;
And... not really... really HAVE to get a mac lol
