Dragon

General
You think me a wingless worm, scurrying about on the ground? You know nothing.
My talons are as spears
My scales akin to shields.
My breath brings forth a sweltering inferno.
My wingbeats conjure hurricanes.
The snap of my tail shatters bone
My bellowing roar sunders glass.
Where I walk, the land subcomes to death.
Where I fly, the air itself ignites!
You stand before me, clad in your own coffins.
There will be no songs of heroes
There will be no courageous tales of monsters slain.
The only song will be the wailing of widows.
Rage. Fear. Agony. Darkness.
I will leave naught but ash.
I loved Smaug's little speech. Being a dragon myself, I decided to embellish upon it.

How does he die, anyway?
But yes, in the book, the fight with the dwarves does not occur and he is slain by Bard with a black arrow. The movie also makes it extremely obvious as well, although it ends prior to the event.
People like movies. Successful books are made into movies. In order to not ruin the experience by making it feel crammed, they decided to extend it a bit, make some things clearer, etc.
Okay, okay. I have to say, though, Eragon did the opposite.
...I think you misunderstood my Asperger's comment. I have it too, and I usually never let an argument end. That's why I said yes to the talking to a brick wall. I even made a peom in response to a friend of mine who has it being targeted.
That came across very condescending. But yes, I remember how in the book it was over the course of months, while in the movie, it happened in seconds. Of course, in the way it was presented, it could have simply been a film mechanic to speed things along.
What if that malarkey with the molten gold actually sealed that shut? Not exactly the biggest leap of logic there is...if we didnt know how it ended that could have been a major issue.
Still prefer this one personally. poor smaug was so blind with greed and more not to realize the fact respect must be given to all.
Lets see, HP I could finish a book in under a day.
LOTR books took me DAYS to finish, and if they brought it down to HP length for the movies they would chop out over 2/3 of the plot just to make it fit, so everyone would bitch that it made no sense XD
Some people like to think that the monster represents a terrible disaster or even a cruel monarch to be overcome by sheer bravery and force of will, but in the end we only really want to see the extent of what it can destroy.
And in response to earlier comments, I doubt anyone is going to read a Tolkien book at 12 seconds per page.
